U.S. Corporations Side With Saudi Arabia Against the American People Over 9/11 Victims Bill

Michael Krieger | Posted
Tuesday Sep 27, 2016

Shortly after the release of the infamous 28-pages earlier today, the White House issued a statement dismissing allegations of Saudi involvement in the attacks of 9/11. I believe such assurances are intended to prevent people from reading it in the first place, because if you actually read them, your mouth will be wide open the entire time in disbelief.

There are only two conclusions any thinking person can come to after reading the 28-pages.

1. Elements within the Saudi government ran the operations behind the 9/11 attack.

2. The U.S. government covered it up.

– From July’s post: The 28-Pages Are Way Worse Than I Thought

If you want to know just how insignificant the interests of the American people are when they happen to conflict with the profit margins of multinational corporations, the following article should leave little doubt.

Politico reports:

Saudi Arabia is mounting a last-ditch campaign to scuttle legislation allowing families of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks to sue the kingdom — and they’re enlisting major American companies to make an economic case against the bill.

General Electric, Dow Chemical, Boeing and Chevron are among the corporate titans that have weighed in against the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, or JASTA, which passed both chambers unanimously and was vetoed on Friday, according to people familiar with the effort. The companies are acting quietly to avoid the perception of opposing victims of terrorism, but they’re responding to Saudi arguments that their own corporate assets in the kingdom could be at risk if the law takes effect.

It’s not just corporations of course, former Senators are also in on the betrayal.

Meanwhile, Trent Lott, the former Senate majority leader who now co-leads Squire Patton Boggs’ lobbying group, e-mailed Senate legislative directors on Monday warning that the bill could lead other countries to withdraw their assets from the United States and retaliate with laws allowing claims against American government actions.

“Many foreign entities have long-standing, intimate relations with U.S. financial institutions that they would undoubtedly unwind, to the further detriment of the U.S. economy,” reads one of the attachments, obtained by POLITICO. “American corporations with interests abroad may be at risk of retaliation, a possibility recently expressed by GE and Dow.”

One source familiar with Boeing’s effort said the company wrote in the letter that the victims’ families deserve justice but argued that the economic consequences of the bill were important to consider. The letter warned of potential job losses, the source said. Dow Chemical is also lobbying against the bill, people familiar with the campaign said.

This seems to be status quo’s line when it comes to anything related to the Saudis. We can’t stand up to them, or our economy will go down the toilet. If our economy is really that fragile we’re in bigger trouble than I thought.

To prove the point, recall Wolf Blitzer’s despicable remark from last month’s post: The War Economy – CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Warns About Job Loss if the U.S. Stops Arming Saudi Arabia.

Yet, it gets worse. Even if Congress happens to override President Obama’s veto (the first override of his Presidency), these critters are already scheming for an alternative way to water it down.

Indeed, when it comes to putting corporate and foreign interests ahead of the American public, the status quo never gives up.

But even if Obama receives the first veto override of his presidency, the story won’t end there: the Saudis will seek a new bill to scale back the law in the lame-duck session or in the next session, after lawmakers are relieved from the heat of the campaign, people familiar with the plans said.

“It’s Washington at its finest,” one of the people said.

The Saudis are now spending more than $250,000 a month fighting the bill, retaining powerhouses Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, Glover Park Group, Sphere Consulting and Squire Patton Boggs. Besides working with companies invested in Saudi Arabia, the lobbyists are directly contacting lawmakers, placing opinion articles and seeking support from think tank scholars.

US in Syria: How to Build a Terror-State
.
Activist Post September 28, 2016
By Tony Cartalucci

A nation is its institutions, and should those institutions weaken, the nation itself will be weakened. And should those institutions be destroyed, the nation, for all intents and purposes, will also be destroyed.
A dramatic example of how to destroy a nation unfolded in 2003 in Iraq as a US led axis invaded and occupied it, intentionally targeting and destroying Iraqi institutions and essential infrastructure, including the police, military, and the government as well as bridges, electricity, and communications.
In the ruins left in the wake of the US-led invasion, through the “Coalition Provisional Authority,” US and European corporations were invited in to not only rebuild these institutions and infrastructure, but to do so in a manner making them dependent on and profitable to US-European corporate-financier interests well into the foreseeable future.
The West’s vast influence in Iraq today is owed to this process. While it is likely the West envisioned a client state far more obedient and subservient to Western interests than Iraq is today, the complicity it does receive across Iraq and even across the wider region, is vastly greater than before the 2003 invasion.
The US State Department through the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) continue to undermine local, independent institutions and infrastructure in favor of US-funded and directed institutions as well as US-controlled infrastructure. It is the mechanics of modern day empire.
While Iraq is an extreme example of just how far and overt this process can be, the United States is repeating this same process the world over through direct and indirect military operations or more subtly through the use of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).

5 Times the United States Helped ISIS
.
Activist Post September 29, 2016
By Darius Shahtahmasebi

Just last week, the U.S. and its allies — who are currently conducting military operations within Syrian territory without a U.N. mandate or permission of the Syrian regime — bombed Syrian troops, killing over 60 fighters and wounding over 100 more. This attack, according to the Assad regime, lasted for over an hour. It also involved a number of warplanes belonging to American, British, and even Australian air forces.
This aerial bombardment coincided with an offensive launched by ISIS militants, who then sought to take back government-held facilities. In the eyes of Russia and Syria, the aerial offensive was working in tandem with ISIS’s ground offensive, confirming their concerns the American-led coalition has been providing air cover to ISIS militants.
This should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed the rise of groups like ISIS in the Middle East. Since ISIS replaced al-Qaeda in 2014 as the top monster to fear, the U.S. has aided the group in a number of ways, both covertly and overtly, despite officially declaring war against the savage terror group.
Let’s examine some of the ways the U.S. has directly aided ISIS while claiming to fight against it since the American-led war began in 2014 (the U.S. aided ISIS growth from the outset, but that is a topic for a separate article).
1. Mosul and Baiji
In June 2014, ISIS crossed the Syrian border into Iraq, effortlessly taking the strategic oil-rich cities of Mosul and Baiji and almost making it as far as Baghdad. Amid the terror group’s frightening victory, they uploaded images and footage of drive-by-shootings, large-scale death marches, and mass graves (following the mass executions of Iraqi soldiers).
ISIS militants claimed massive quantities of American military equipment, including entire truckloads of Humvees, helicopters, tanks, and artillery, as their own. This was no secret to Washington, or even the world, as the militants photographed and recorded themselves and publicly flaunted their activity on social media.
What did the U.S. do in response? Nothing. In spite of all the American bases in Iraq and the government’s ability to perform all manner of illicit activity — including assassinating Muammar Gaddafi in Libya using a drone that was flown out of Sicily by a pilot who operated the vehicle from a naval base in Nevada‚ the U.S. couldn’t do anything to stop ISIS rapid advancements. Was there a problem preventing the U.S. military from conducting air strikes? Clearly not, as the U.S. had been launching drone strikes in Pakistan at around the same time ISIS advanced.
2. ISIS oil revenue

Jihadi John’s death sparked end of IS... but British killers will seek revenge
.
ISLAMIC State will collapse within six months, prompting British jihadists to return to the UK bent on revenge, terrorism experts have warned.
By James Fielding, Exclusive

Displaced fighters are likely to retaliate by launching a wave of attacks here, according to counter extremism think tank the Quilliam Foundation.
Managing director Adam Deen believes IS will be defeated by April next year after being pummelled by British, US and Russian air strikes and driven out of Iraq and Syria by coalition forces.
The murderous group has lost nearly half its territory and introduced crippling taxes in the absence of any oil wealth, a move that is rapidly turning its supporters against it.
Mr Deen said militants have already started to switch to other terrorist groups, most notably Al Qaeda, as IS becomes little more than a “propaganda machine”.
However, he warned that battle hardened British fighters will instead seek to bring the war to Britain.
The FBI last week said Western countries face an unprecedented threat from terrorists being driven out of Iraq and Syria.

Op-Edge: ‘Leaked Kerry comments prove US involvement in Syrian crisis from onset’
.
RT 1 Oct, 2016

Closed-door comments by US Secretary of State John Kerry reveal much about US involvement in Syrian crisis, Dr. Jamal Wakeem, professor of history and international relations at Lebanese University in Beirut, told RT.

The New York Times acquired the taped conversation between the US Secretary of State and two dozen Syrian civilians from education, rescue, and medical groups working in rebel-held areas, during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The leaked recording reveals how angry John Kerry really is about being unable to topple President Bashar Assad by military means.
“I've argued for use of force. I stood up. I’m the guy who stood up and announced we’re going to attack Assad because of the weapons, and then you know things evolved into a different process,” the Secretary of State said in the tape.
He told the civilians that “you have nobody more frustrated than we are (the US)” that the Syrian issue is now being solved diplomatically.
Kerry also warned the Syrians, who sounded clearly unhappy with Washington’s contribution, that attempts to intervene militarily or provide more support to the rebels by the US may have a reverse effect.
“The problem is that, you know, you get, quote, ‘enforcers’ in there and then everybody ups the ante, right? Russia puts in more, Iran puts in more; Hezbollah is there more and Nusra is more; and Saudi Arabia and Turkey put all their surrogate money in, and you all are destroyed,” the diplomat explained.
Jamal Wakeem: I believe that this proves that the US was involved in the Syrian crisis since its onset and that it was collaborating with the so-called insurgents in order to topple the Syrian regime. In addition, it proves also that the Syrian crisis had its regional and international dimension since the beginning and it wasn’t a revolution against an illegitimate regime, as the West claimed at one point.
In addition, I believe that it also proves that the Obama administration didn’t give priority to peaceful and political solution for the Syrian crisis. But it used this as an alternative to its inability to use force when it was confronted by a steadfast position by Russia who refused to be dragged into another trick by the US similar to what happened in Libya and topple the Syrian regime. I believe that the Russians are aware of the fact that the war in Syria is a war by proxy directed against them and against their ally China. It is part of a bigger plan by the US to block Eurasia from having access to the maritime trade roots. In addition, I believe there was a mentioning of the presence of the representatives of the NGOs operating in insurgent territories. And this proves also that the US was using these NGOs as a tool of soft power in order to topple the Syrian regime.
RT: The conversation happened a few days after the US-Russia-brokered ceasefire in Syria ended. How possible is it to pursue diplomacy when one side doesn't seem to believe in it?

Pentagon paid PR firm $540mn to make fake terrorist videos
.
RT America 2 Oct, 2016

The Pentagon paid a UK PR firm half a billion dollars to create fake terrorist videos in Iraq in a secret propaganda campaign exposed by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
PR firm Bell Pottinger, known for its array of controversial clients including the Saudi government and Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s foundation, worked with the US military to create the propaganda in a secretive operation.
The firm reported to the CIA, the National Security Council and the Pentagon on the project with a mandate to portray Al-Qaeda in a negative light and track suspected sympathizers.
Both the White House and General David Petraeus, the former general who shared classified information with his mistress, signed off on the content produced by the agency.

Syria: al Qaeda Now Has Two Air Forces
.
SyriaNews September 20, 2016
Miri WoodSyria1

Updated to include videos of Ambassador al Ja’afari’s statement to the UN, 21 September. Arabic follows simultaneous translation.

Two days ago, the coalition of 66 countries led by the US, bombed a Syrian military position at al Tharda Mountain near Deir Ezzor airport, slaughtering 62 Syrian soldiers [official number now 83], injuring more than 100, and destroying essential military equipment. Almost simultaneously, Israel bombed Khan Arnaba, Quneitra. Though Israel is not an official member of the criminal “coalition,” it has come to the rescue of al Qaeda in Syria, on multiple occasions. On 13 September, Syria shot down an Israeli bomber jet, and a drone, after the bomber had attacked a military base.
These bombings were intentional, coordinated, and meant to assist the terrorists in Syria. Immediately after the slaughter at al Tharda, takfiri launched an attack on the Syrian soldiers not injured by US bombings. The criminal assault on Syrian troops within their own country reportedly lasted one hour, before the US CENTCOM issued a statement from Qatar, claiming the slaughter was accidental. Coalition drones had been seen on 16 September, gathering the necessary intelligence which surely showed the positions of the military base of the Syrian Arab Army, and the locations of the terrorists.
Within minutes of the slaughter of our soldiers, US backed “ISIS” shot down a Syrian war plane, martyring 3 Syrian pilots.
The CENTCOM statement claimed that Russia had been notified of the planned bombings — as a professional courtesy. Russia made an immediate denial, and called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
The meeting was contentious, as the Russian ambassador walked out, and both he and the US ambassador addressed reporters, afterward. War mongering Ambassador Power was so enraged at being called to an emergency meeting on Saturday, that she made no pretense at diplomacy, and used her time before the press to malign the Syrian government; Power prefers her professional time be used to give the UN audience to terrorists and anti-Syrian propagandists.
We warned them that a quick regime change in Syria was not going to work. — Vitaly Churkin, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, to reporters
Virginia State Senator Dick Black, a US Marine Corps veteran, a passionate supporter of Syria, and of its soldiers, sent a letter of condolence to UN Ambassador Bashar al Ja’afari. In it, he notes that the aircraft involved in the attack are equipped with GPS tracking devices: “I am sickened by the possibility that the attack may have been deliberately launched to support ISIS troops to overwhelm the valiant defenders of the city.” Senator Black further writes that at times, “the State Department has found ISIS to be a useful tool in the cover U.S. war against Syria…Furthermore, my travels beyond Palmyra…left no doubt that the U.S. – led Coalition deliberately allowed ISIS to cross over 100 miles of open deserts without dropping a single bomb.”

Syrian Woman to the West: Don’t Believe Your Countries’ Lies
.
SyriaNews September 30, 2016

by Afraa Dagher

I couldn’t sleep last night. I found myself praying for our army with hot tears, again. Not two weeks ago, the US and coalition bombed a military position in Deir Ezzor. Eighty-three of our soldiers were massacred. US said it was “accident.” Maybe you heard of Deir Ezzor because of this “accident.” Deir Ezzor has been under siege of your moderates for a long time. On 16 January 2016, those moderates slaughtered 300 Syrian civilians there.
Two days ago what your leaders call “moderate opposition” fired new GRAD rockets at our soldiers trying to rescue our civilians at al Handarat. They were going to launch it against our people on the coast, in Aleppo, and in Hama.
More than five years, to now, every day we welcome martyrs and injured soldiers. I ask myself how brave those men in our SAA [Syrian Arab Army. Conscription in Syria is mandatory for men. Many women volunteer], to give their souls and sacrifice their lives to protect us. They lose their blood. Some lose a hand or a leg or both because of the sophisticated weapons the “moderate rebels” have, have been given by your countries.
Moderates threatened to murder the parents of Syrian soldiers
Moderates threatened to murder the parents of Syrian soldiers
One ironic point is that many of these ‘moderates’ (mostly non Syrians to start with) are fighting in areas which have oil resources, like al Shaer field in Homs. Do you know of the massacres of Syrian workers there? On 16 July 2014, ‘moderates’ began with suicide attacks. Coordinated assaults on check points massacred more than 200 of our soldiers. More than 300 of our volunteer National Defense Force were slaughtered [NDF consist of part-time reservists who function under the direction of the SAA]. Civilian workers were kidnapped and later found executed, in the desert.
Don’t let the media fool you by the name ISIS. The same sites which were controlled by the so called moderate rebels are now controlled by ISIS. Regrouping and renaming gives the US its pretext to support “moderates” and pretend the “moderate” fight ISIS. However they are all one, whether called FSA or Jahbat al Nusra or ISIS or any of the very long list. Which ever name, in Raqqa, in Homs, al Shaer, they murder us, they kill our soldiers, they destroy our infrastructure, they steal our oil and sell it to Turkey and Israel.
If you think there was ever a peaceful revolution, how would you explain their slogan in March 2011 the date of this bloody revolution: Alawites to grave and Christians to Beirut! Can you see any thing but killing and displacement in this slogan? Can you hear any word about democracy or freedom in the slogan to exterminate one Syrian minority and force expulsion of another?
They started by massacring Syrian soldiers in Jisr al Shoghour, then civilians there. They massacred men in Latakia countryside, under orders of the Syrian rebel who was actually the Qatar FSA prince. They massacred mostly elderly men. They younger men were in the military. They kidnapped the women and their children. Qatar’s al Jazeera then made these women lie that there were cowards who ran away, abandoned them. They forced them to lie that they — kidnapped, imprisoned — were treated well by these FSA moderates who murdered and kidnapped.
Those you call “moderate” treated their victims so well that they murdered the kidnapped children and used their bodies to accuse our soldiers and government of the chemical attack in al Ghouta in Damascus countryside in August 2013. Your media accused our army! Your governments almost bombed us because of these lies.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov has described a number of points listed in a UNSC draft resolution drawn up by France and Spain as “unacceptable.” Gatilov noted “France has its own resolution draft that contains a number of points that are unacceptable for us. It politicizes the whole humanitarian sector and is aimed at putting additional pressure on the Syrian government and thus on Russia.” He added that Russia has nevertheless come up with a series of amendments and is ready to work on the draft. Meanwhile, Russia’s envoy Vitaly Churkin said that, while the draft won’t succeed in bringing any progress to Syria, it will provoke a Russian veto, as he sees no way for the draft to be passed. The draft comes following the US’ decision to suspend talks with Russia over Syria, claiming that Russia had failed to fulfill its commitment to a ceasefire agreement, while Moscow insists that the American side never fulfilled its obligation to separate the “moderate” rebels from the terrorists in east Aleppo under the deal. A vote on the resolution is scheduled for Saturday.

Op-Edge: Germany moves to run its own EU army – leaving both Brussels & NATO in new crisis
.
RT 6 Oct, 2016 17:02

Despite Britain’s move to block an EU army, a growing number of experts believe a recent German defense paper shows Berlin has ambitions to run an EU army, and has a plan to cut through Brussels red tape and create one by itself. But at what cost to NATO?
While EU defense ministers openly discuss with NATO chiefs how to create an EU army, many might think the haste for the EU to go ahead with such a grandiose plan stems from its own credibility being at an all-time low in the wake of Brexit.
For EU federalists in Brussels, there is indeed some truth in this. But Brussels is also worried about being left behind or dwarfed by Germany’s own plans which would leave the EU in a weak position to negotiate who gets to call the shots in an official EU army, when it is finally created.
And the EU has good reason to worry. Germany is impatient and is looking to position itself as the military leader of a coalition of EU countries which would no longer take orders from NATO, but also would not necessarily even be part of an official EU army.

Don’t mention the war: UK, Germany headed for military alliance
.
RT UK 7 Oct, 2016 15:07

Former military adversaries Britain and Germany are weighing up a serious defense alliance which would see UK helicopters stationed on German naval ships.
The plans, announced by UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon, will see the two countries increase joint training exercises with Britain stationing a new Wildcat helicopter aboard a German warship during a Mediterranean Sea training mission in 2017.
“Britain stands together with Germany to face the same challenges, including the threat from Daesh [Islamic State], and shares the same values of liberty, tolerance and justice,” Fallon said at a meeting with his counterpart Ursula von der Leyen at the German Embassy Friday.
“While the UK is leaving the European Union, our commitment to European security remains steadfast, and [will] continue as a leading member of NATO, the cornerstone of our defense.”
The move comes 70 years after the two countries fought a world war and Fallon was attending an event to mark 26 years since Germany was reunified.
