The Amazing Glyphosate Revolt Grows
NEO 23.05.2016 Author: F. William Engdahl

I must make a confession. I never thought it would get this far. There is an absolutely amazing international revolt against the most deadly and most widely used weed killer in world agriculture–glyphosate. Those of you who have followed my earlier writings can detect my feeling of pessimism that mere “democratic” grass-roots protest, combined with a scientific assessment from an agency of WHO that glyphosate was a “probable carcinogen” would be enough to stop the pending, twice-postponed EU Commission renewal of the expiring license for glyphosate in the EU. It almost doesn’t matter at this point what the ultimate vote is when the next EU Commission glyphosate meeting is convened. The genie is out of the bottle. One of the world’s most important eugenics projects to maim and ultimately reduce human population is on the brink of being banned much as DDT decades ago.

On May 19, a revised proposal by the European Commission to re-approve glyphosate for use in Europe for 9 more years (rather than the original 15 years), but with almost no restrictions on use, failed to secure the required qualified majority among EU governments. This is an amazing and very positive development for democratic empowerment against an institution increasingly seen–not only by the British population–as an anti-democratic, even totalitarian structure irresponsive to the most basic concerns for the health and safety of EU citizens.

The agri-chemical industry bigs—Monsanto, Syngenta, Bayer and friends–are stunned at their failure. Corruption in government corridors whether in Berlin or Brussels seems to be losing its efficacy.

The next step for the troubled glyphosate renewal process will be for the EU Commission, those faceless, unelected bureaucrats, to come up with a new revised proposal that will bring Germany to approval by end of June when the old license expires or order glyphosate withdrawn from the entire EU market within six months according to Henry Rowlands’ international GMO watchdog media, Sustainable Pulse.

Countering Pro-GMO Deceptions and Falsehoods. Genetically Engineered Crops are not Safe

By Colin Todhunter
Global Research, June 02, 2016
In his recent piece for The Times newspaper in the UK, Viscount Matt Ridley argues that a new report from the American National Academies of Sciences (NAS) leaves no room for doubt that genetically engineered crops are as safe or safer, and are certainly better for the environment, than conventionally bred crops.
Ridley adheres to the belief that GM technology reduces insecticide use and speculates that future GM crops will be even safer, better for the environment and better for human health. He says that it is a disgrace that Greenpeace still campaigns against Golden Rice, a vitamin-enhanced variety that its backers claim could save hundreds of thousands of lives a year.
According to Ridley, opposition from rich westerners adds to the cost of bringing such crops to the market, which he argues restricts the spread of GM technology.
In discussing the labelling of GM food in the US, Ridley argues this leaves consumers with the impression that there is something wrong. He argues that the recent NAS report makes the point that genetic engineering is a method, not a category of crop, and it makes no sense to single it out for special labelling because regulation should be based on traits, not techniques. Ridley implies, therefore, that GM is no different from food that is boiled or roasted as its actual content remains unaffected.
Ridley finishes by saying the NAS report points out that “emerging genetic technologies have blurred the distinction between genetic engineering and conventional plant breeding to the point where regulatory systems based on process are technically difficult to defend.”
With a good dose of industry-inspired PR flurry, he concludes that because gene editing in particular will soon allow scientists to improve crops in ways that have none of the even theoretical risks that critics highlight, if Europe does not embrace biotech plants now, its agriculture will wilt.
Unfortunately, for readers of The Times, Ridley’s piece is the usual concoction of misrepresentations, falsehoods and blunders we have come to expect of pro-GMO puff pieces that rely on flawed sources and reports.
His major blunder is to have accepted at face value the NAS report.

Britain secretly upgrading its nukes without asking MPs - report

[Dave. Your eco-fascist regime is upgrading its weapons of mass destruction. Should you initiate genocide on its civilians?]
RT UK 7 Jun, 2016
Britain is secretly upgrading its arsenal of Trident nuclear weapons and is developing an entirely new warhead, according to a report from the Nuclear Information Service (NIS). Controversially, Parliament is yet to consent to its renewal.
The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) in Berkshire, where Britain’s nuclear warheads are manufactured and maintained, is working on a program to upgrade the current Trident warhead to produce a more powerful and accurate nuclear warhead, “Mark 4A,” the independent research body says.
Peter Burt of the NIS says: “The Mark 4A warhead modification programme will allow Trident nuclear warheads to remain in service until the middle of this century, and plenty of money is being spent to pave the way for developing a new generation warhead which will remain in service for even longer.”
A joint US-UK working group has been set up to allow collaboration on the programs, and new warheads have been tested at Sandia National Laboratories in the US.
The costs and the timetable of the program have not been revealed to Parliament, according to the report.
The modified warhead is however mentioned in a letter on the Ministry of Defence (MoD) website, dated July 2, 2014.
The letter says Dr Paul Hollinshead would be responsible for the “nuclear warhead capability sustainment programme” and for “commencement of Mk4A production in accordance with the Trident Manufacture Plan.”
The report reveals £85 million (US$124 million) has already been spent by the AWE on new nuclear warhead design studies.

Car bomb targeting police in Istanbul kills 11, wounds 36

7 June 2016
By Humeyra Pamuk and Osman Orsal
ISTANBUL (Reuters) - A car bomb ripped through a police bus in central Istanbul during the morning rush hour on Tuesday, killing 11 people and wounding 36 near the main tourist district, a major university and the mayor's office.
The car was detonated as police buses passed, Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin told reporters, in the fourth major bombing in Turkey's biggest city this year. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Kurdish militants have staged similar attacks, including one last month in Istanbul.
"A car-bomb attack was made against vehicles carrying our rapid-response police and passing by on the road, resulting in seven police and four civilians losing their lives," Sahin said.
Three of the 36 wounded were in critical condition, he added.
The blast hit the Vezneciler district, between the headquarters of the local municipality and the campus of Istanbul University, not far from the city's historic heart. It shattered shop windows and scattered rubble over nearby streets.
GUNSHOTS
"There was a loud bang, we thought it was lightning but right at that second the windows of the shop came down. It was extremely scary," said Cevher, a shopkeeper who declined to give his surname. The blast was strong enough to topple all the goods from the shelves of his store.
The police bus that appeared to have borne the brunt of the blast was tipped onto its roof on the side of the road. A second police bus was also damaged. The charred wreckage of several other vehicles lined the street.
Gunshots were heard in the area after the blast, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The cost to us? Austerity. Food banks, soup kitchens, paupers' graves. Why aren't the Lib Lab Con jobsworthies in a British Gitmo? The zio luciferian politicians certainly don't represent me and I expect that holds true for the rest of us humans in Britain.

The US (RIP) spends over half its massive budget on war and the means to make it. Its middle class has been all but disappeared (NWO objective). Its manufacturing base has been exported. Much of the country is on welfare. Martial law is in place in all but name. The country is run by psychopaths and their puppet psychopaths.

Corrupt? The corruptness of any regime can be measured by the number of laws it passes to suppress common law. The EU has imposed more laws since its inception than a hundred years of British regimes.

BREXIT, BROUT, UKOFFEU, take your pick
.
What will happen after the referendum?
Martin Shaw 8 June 2016
A quick examination of the Tory project whatever the results shows worrying prospects.
Boris Johnson has achieved the remarkable feat of making David Cameron (‘PR Dave’) look principled. While Johnson’s ‘agonising’ Brexit choice – apparently after drafting two opposing articles for the Daily Telegraph – was transparently opportunist, Cameron’s ‘Remain’ looks like a strategic decision. Unlike Johnson’s, the prime minister’s deceitful hype surrounding the British ‘renegotiation’ was limited to the tactical.
With this knowledge, what should we make of the divide in the ruling Conservative party, and how will it be affected by the outcome of the 23 June referendum? Where could the referendum lead, not only for Britain and the EU, but for British politics in general? This article is an attempt to explore the challenge which faces all concerned with where the Tories’ division on Europe is leading them – and those they rule over.
Deep differences at the top?
Although Cameron and Johnson are antagonists, there is no ideological and strategic chasm between them. Both are culturally Europhile but politically soft-Eurosceptic. Johnson is no more a ‘swivel-eyed loon’ than Cameron is a EU enthusiast (his former spin-doctor Steve Hilton even claims that he was privately for leaving).
Cameron and Johnson share the general Tory scepticism towards progressive EU legislation and European justice, while recognising the economic advantages of the Single European Market and the free movement of labour. While only Johnson has actually opted for ‘out’, Cameron obviously wagered (when he promised a referendum) that, in the end, Britain could live with an exit.
The question is whether these shared commitments, underpinned by a common formation and deep class ties, will enable them to overcome the antagonisms of the campaign and cooperate in the aftermath of the vote. There are good reasons to think that they will have little alternative but to do so, to avoid a deep party split and a catastrophic, Tory-made crisis in the British economy.
Who would call the shots in a Brexit Tory government?

Why A Kurdish Enclave in Syria Is a Very Bad Idea

GIA 06 April 2016 by Maram Susli
A few simple reasons why PYD/YPG claims to federal autonomy and attempts to annex Syrian land are illegitimate, undemocratic, and could lead to genocide.
1. Kurds are not a majority in the Area PYD/YPG are attempting to annex
The region of Al Hasakah, which the Kurdish Nationalist Party (PYD) and its military wing YPG have declared a Kurdish federal state, does not have a Kurdish majority. Al Hasakah Governorate is a mosaic of Assyrian Christians, Armenians, Turkmen, Kurds and Bedouin Arabs. Of the 1.5 million population of Al Hasakah, only 40% are ethnically Kurdish. Moreover, parts of Al Hasakah Governorate, such as Al Hasakah district, is less than 15% Kurdish (!). Among the other large minorities in the area the Arabs and Assyrian Christians form a majority. Declaring a small area with a wide array of ethnic groups as belonging to a specific ethnic minority is a recipe for oppression.

RT: Investigate claims of Ukrainian torture & repression, Duma lawmakers tell international groups
.
6 Jun, 2016
Russian lower house MPs, together with human rights officials, have called on international organizations to investigate alleged political repression, torture and summary punishment used by the current authorities in Ukraine.
A letter on the issue was sent to the secretary general of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) , the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, and the head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Russian daily Izvestia reported on Monday, quoting sources in the Russian parliament.
Russian lawmakers, diplomats and members of the Presidential Council for Human Rights say the step was prompted by recent statements from the United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT).
“The reports about the situation with human rights in Ukraine between November 16, 2015 and today by the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights have officially confirmed the numerous facts of politically motivated prosecution of Ukrainian and foreign citizens on this country’s territory,” reads the letter.
“Moreover, just days ago the delegation of the UN Subcommittee for Prevention of Torture had to suspend its working visit to Ukraine in which it was investigating the reports about cruel and inhumane treatment of political prisoners.”
The authors of the message were referring to an incident in late May in which an SPT delegation had to suspend its visit to Ukraine after law enforcers and authorities had denied them access to places of detention used by the Ukrainian security services.

Close Brexit Polls to Keep Sterling Volatile, Says Foley
.
Bloomberg UK June 8
Opposition to the European Union is growing across the bloc, suggesting that anti-EU sentiment extends much further than traditionally sceptical Britain. As the U.K. gears up for a referendum on whether to remain in the club of nations it joined in 1973, a survey of more than 10,000 people across Europe showed that voters from Italy and Poland to Greece and Sweden have lost faith in the EU. People in France -- one of the six founding countries -- now see the bloc less favorably even than those in the U.K., as the euro-area debt crisis and refugee influx take their toll. Rabobank Senior Foreign-Exchange Strategist Jane Foley discusses with Bloomberg's Anna Edwards in London and Manus Cranny in Dubai on "Countdown."

DEUTSCHE BANK CEO: 'Every discussion we now have is about technology'

Oscar Williams-Grut
Yahoo7 June 2016
Deutsche Bank CEO John Cryan says the bank "need[s] to revolutionise our business because the world has changed so much" but admits its diverse customer base makes it hard for the bank to fully embrace digital.
Cryan, who became CEO of the German bank last July, appeared on a panel of business executives at the DocuSign Momentum conference in London to discuss how the digital revolution is transforming business. DocuSign is a Silicon Valley digital signature and online document management company that counts Deutsche Bank as a customer.
Cryan told the audience of business executives: "Everything about our business model is changing and that's why we've not worried too much about protecting our inheritance. Of course our brand, of course our client relationships, but we need to revolutionise our business because the world has changed so much."
Increased regulation in the financial sector in the wake of 2008 financial crash has inflated operating costs for banks around the world meaning they have to be leaner and meaner if they want to deliver the same returns to shareholders as they did in the pre-crisis years.
At the same time, advances in technology and a load of out-of-work bankers in the post-crisis era have given rise to a host of fintech — financial technology — startups who do promise to do different parts of a banks job faster, better, and cheaper than the lumbering lenders. Established banks are locked in a technology arms race with these nimble rivals.
Cryan acknowledged this by saying: "It's only through the concept of us becoming an applied technology company that we'll achieve it. Every discussion we now have within the group is about technology: compliance is about technology, audit about technology — things you think would never dovetail with technology are somehow linked."
Deutsche Bank is not alone in thinking this. Goldman Sachs says it now thinks of itself as primarily as a tech company and JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has warned that "Silicon Valley is coming" and banks need to adapt fast. Almost every other major bank is seriously looking at technology in one way or another.
