The Syrian Endgame
“A Lost War is Dangerous”. US-NATO, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, “Losers on The Rampage”
The Geneva process over Syria is in many respects different, because it is a charade. The NATO and Gulf monarchy sponsors pretend to support Syrian ‘opposition’ groups and pretend to fight the same extremist groups they created.

Yet the dangers are very real because the Saudis and Turkey might react unpredictably, faced with the failure of their five year project to carve up Syria. Both countries have threatened to invade Syria, to defend their ‘assets’ from inevitable defeat from the powerful alliance Syria has forged with Russia, Iran, Iraq and the better party of Lebanon.

It should be clear by now that every single anti-government armed group in Syria has been created by Washington and its allies. Several senior US officials have admitted the fact. Regime change has always been the goal. Nevertheless, the charade of a ‘War on ISIS’ goes on, with a compliant western media unwilling to point out that ‘the emperor has no clothes’.

Geneva 3 has actually brought some results. First, none of the NATO-backed ‘opposition’ groups managed to show a credible face. Second, and more importantly, the US and Russia kept talking and actually developed another de-escalation plan. It is not conclusive but it is encouraging.

The ‘moderate rebel’ masks are down, we now know who they are: the internationally proscribed terrorist group Jabhat al Nusra (al Qaeda in Syria) and its long term Salafist allies Jaysh al Islam (the Army of Islam) and Ahrar as Sham. The latter two are the remnants of the Syrian Salafist groups. In northern Syria they are also welded together by Turkey and the Saudis into the very non-moderate-sounding Jaysh al Fatah (the Army of Conquest).

These extremist groups represent very few in Syria, as MINT Press journalist Mnar Muhawesh pointed out in her editorial piece ‘The Syrian Opposition’s NATO Sponsored Apocalyptic Vision For Syria’: In ideology they are no different to ISIS.

(See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvq0JmzqR_8).

It may be stating the obvious to say that al Qaeda groups have poor negotiating skills. In any event, they proved it in Geneva. Losing on the battlefield they demanded capitulation in Geneva, then stormed out.

Foreign backed terrorists aside, who are the real Syrian opposition?

Firstly, they are the groups that created the 2005 Damascus Declaration but who sided with the state and the army in early 2011, when the Salafist insurrection hijacked the reform demonstrations.

Some of them like Haytham Manna and former minister Qadri Jamil appeared in Geneva. Others like the powerful Syrian Social National Party (SSNP) backed Bashar al Assad’s government, back in 2011.

Still others sat on the sidelines, frustrated at the Muslim Brotherhood’s violent hijacking of the reform movement. Sharmine Narwani’s piece at RT ‘Will Geneva talks lead right back to Assad’s 2011 reforms?’ illustrates this very well. As the Damascus Declaration made plain, most of the Syrian opposition rejected both foreign sponsorship and violent attacks on the state.

Second are the Syrian Kurds, who were open to foreign assistance but rejected attacks on the Syrian Army and state. They have received most of their arms from Damascus. Prefering to side with the Syrian Army than the Salafists, their presence in Geneva was not tolerated by Erdogan or his clients.

That left Russia and the USA to discuss their supposed common goals (destroying terrorists) while Erdogan and the Saudis seethed. The aims of the two big powers are worlds apart. Hat difference is seen in the loss of Washington’s proxies in Syria in face of the rise of the 4+1 (Russia, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Hezbollah).

That shift, in turn, threatens to derail the Bush plan for a ‘New Middle East’. The US wanted to control the entire region, now it faces losing it all.

Russia for its part has pursued its own interests in the region, backing its allies in accordance with international law. Its use of air power in Syria followed the Syria-Iran-Iraq-Hezbollah accord on ground power forces. That is the force currently prevailing on Syrian soil.

The good news is that, despite these widely differing aims, Washington and Moscow have kept talking and managed a provisional agreement at Geneva, with three heads.

The first agreement is over humanitarian aid, which faces serious obstacles due to the series of sieges taking place. Some of these are al Qaeda groups’ sieges, such as that on Foua and Kafraya in the north; but increasingly they are becoming Syrian Army sieges on al Qaeda fighters who hole up in towns and cities, such as Madaya and Eastern Aleppo. Most ground aid is going in through the Government-supervised Syria Arab Red Crescent, but air drops are being organised for Deir eZorr, and some other places.

Second, there is a political process which (it has been agreed) must be exclusively between Syrians, unconditional and inclusive. Contrary to many outside reports, there is not yet any framework for this, nor plans for early elections. The Syrian position, backed by Russia, is that the Syrian constitution (and the legally mandated schedule of elections) prevails until the Syrian people vote to change it.

Finally the agreement on ‘cessation of hostilities’, due almost immediately, has a task force to oversee the details. This ceasefire does not apply to any group identified by the UN Security Council as a terrorist group. That immediately rules out ISIS or Jabhat al Nusra. The major obstacle here is that Russia wants Jaysh al Islam and Ahrar as Sham (which have both collaborated with al Nusra for many years) added to the UNSC list. If Washington agrees to this, they will virtually abandon their ‘moderate rebel’ option. There is no other force of substance on the ground. The Saudis and Erdogan would be furious.

How will the US manage these tensions? The Obama administration has always approached the Syrian conflict in an arms-length way, reminiscent of the CIA’s ‘plausible deniability’ over its death squads in Latin America. But credibility problems have grown and Washington does seem more concerned at finding a way out rather than risking a new desperate gambit. That would certainly lead to serious escalation, and without any guarantee of success.

Would Washington allow Erdogan and the Saudis to initiate a major escalation, without US approval? I think not. Obama resisted Saudi and Israeli provocations, when the Iran deal was imminent. Even Bush could not be provoked into a confrontation with Russia, when invited by Georgia’s Mikheil Saakashvili.

For its part, Russia is well prepared for a provocation across the Turkish border. Logic suggests that the losers must lose. But this is a dangerous time.

(An excerpt from the book by E.C. Knuth)
"The City" is an international financial oligarchy and is perhaps the most arbitrary and absolute form of government in the world. This international financial oligarchy uses the allegoric "Crown" as its symbol of power and has its headquarters in the ancient City of London, an area of 677 acres; which strangely in all the vast expanse of the 443,455 acres of Metropolitan London alone is not under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police, but has its own private force of about 2,000 men, while its night population is under 9,000.
This tiny area of a little over one square mile has in it the giant Bank of England, a privately owned institution; which as is further elaborated hereinafter is not subject to regulation by the British Parliament, and is in effect a sovereign world power. Within the City are located also the Stock Exchange and many institutions of world-wide scope. The City carries on its business of local government with a fanciful display of pompous medieval ceremony and with its officers attired in grotesque ancient costumes. Its voting power is vested in secret guilds with names of long extinct crafts such as the Mercers, Grocers, Fishmongers, Skinners, Vintners, etc. All this trivial pomp and absurdity and horse-play seems to serve very well to blind the eyes of the public to the big things going on behind the scenes; for the late Vincent Cartwright Vickers, once Deputy-Lieutenant of this City, a director of the great British armament firm of Vickers, Ltd., and a director of the Bank of England from 1910 to 1919, in his "Economic Tribulation" published 1940, lays the wars of the world on the door-step of the City.
That the British people and the British Parliament have little to say in the foreign affairs of the British Empire, and that the people of the British Empire must fight when International Finance and the City blow the trumpet, appears from the paean of praise of America by Andrew Carnegie, "Triumphant Democracy," published in 1886 by that American super-industrialist and British newspaper publisher, in the following words: "My American readers may not be aware of the fact that, while in Britain an act of Parliament is necessary before works for a supply of water or a mile of railway can be constructed, six or seven men can plunge the nation into war, or, what is perhaps equally disastrous, commit it to entangling alliances without consulting Parliament at all. This is the most pernicious, palpable effect flowing from the monarchial theory, for these men do this in 'the king's Name,' who is in theory still a real monarch, although in reality only a convenient puppet, to be used by the cabinet at pleasure to suit their own needs."
Edwin J. Clapp, Professor of Economics at New York University, in his "Economic Aspects Of The War" published in 1915, developed the utterly boundless authority assumed by the "Crown" in its commands to the nations of the world through its "Order-in-Council," used without restraint and without reference to existing usage or so-called International law, by making new International Law to fit any situation, as required.
The Balance of Power is a creation of this financial oligarchy and its purposes are as follows:
677 acres behind most of the evil that is going on, even that in Israel, that needs to be liberated or flattened.

Wealth that gives power is stored in computers. A major solar flare or nuclear EMP could change the balance of power. I have a suspicion that as well as weaponising the weather and being a delivery means of designer bugs, chem trails of aluminium oxide are a computer defence mechanism. They are also harmful pollution and illegal.

"Christians have been duped by the unholiest hoax in all history, by so-called Jews. This is considered their most effective weapon."
"This 'big lie' technique is brainwashing United States Christians into believing that Jesus Christ was "King of the Jews", in the sense that so-called 'Jews' today call themselves 'Jews'. This reference was first made in English translations of the Old and New Testaments, centuries before the so-called Jews highjacked the word 'Jew' in the 18th century A.D. to palm themselves off on the Christian world as having a kinship with Jesus Christ. This alleged kinship comes from the myth of their common ancestry with the so-called 'Jews' of the Holy Land in the Old Testament history, a fiction based on fable."

African oil is no trivial pursuit

Sudan: One Part Oil, Two Parts Religion Equals A Deadly Mixture
The war in Sudan is the most violent kind of war, a civil war. It pits the predominantly Muslim, authoritarian north against a largely Christian South. Yet, as many analysts describe the differences between the two and focus on the religious and cultural differences, another perhaps even more important dynamic is involved. That dynamic being the control of Sudan's rich oil reserves and the wealth that it brings. This is an extremely brutal war that has seen people killed in large numbers, rape and the wanton burning of homes and entire villages are many of the atrocities that is seen in this civil war.
The problem of Sudan, like many of the conflicts in Sub-Saharan (Black) Africa are inextricably intertwined with the vast and rich natural resources contained in Africa and the need for the west to exploit them to maintain their lavish lifestyles. Sudan is no exception. While many western analysts, and pundits seek to portray this conflict in purely religious and ethnic terms, casting this society and by insinuation, most of black Africa as being somehow less developed and primitive, it is the influence of many western governments and corporations, that pit black against black for control of the resources coveted by Westerners that is at the root of this and many of Africa's conflicts. While many western governments really do want to end the carnage in Sudan and wish to bring peace, there are important religious and economic dynamics that have prevented this, and will in all likelihood, continue to do so.

South Sudan’s rebel leader Riek Machar now directs the war from his home in Ethiopia’s capital.

One of Africa’s bloodiest wars is being waged from a three-storey building in a calm, upscale neighbourhood in Ethiopia’s capital.
It is here, in a typical suburban villa in Addis Ababa, an easy walk away from luxury hotels and burger joints, that Riek Machar maintains his residence.
It’s a long way from the frontline.
Machar is a man of many titles. He’s a doctor, with a PhD in mechanical engineering from an American university. He’s a hero of South Sudan’s decades-long war for independence. He’s a father and a husband, a former vice-president, and a seasoned diplomat.
But his most important title today, as South Sudan enters its third year of a disastrous civil war, is commander-in-chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLM-IO).
Along with Salva Kiir, the current president of South Sudan, Machar has presided over a vicious internecine conflict.
Tens of thousands of civilians have died since the war began between the Dinka and Nuer ethnicities in December 2013, as fighters from both sides raped and pillaged their way through towns and villages, while more than two million people have been forced out of their homes.

Why Are Russian Engineers Working at an Islamic State-Controlled Gas Plant in Syria?

"Officially, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government and his Russian allies are at war against the Islamic State. But a gas facility in northern Syria under the control of the jihadi group is evidence that business links between the Syrian regime and the Islamic State persist. According to Turkish officials and Syrian rebels, it is also the site of cooperation between the Islamic State and a Russian energy company with ties to President Vladimir Putin.

The Tuweinan gas facility, which is located roughly 60 miles southwest of the Islamic State’s de facto capital of Raqqa, is the largest such facility in Syria. It was built by Russian construction company Stroytransgaz, which is owned by billionaire Gennady Timchenko, a close associate of Putin. The company’s link to the Kremlin is well-documented: The U.S. Treasury Department previously sanctioned Stroytransgaz, along with the other Timchenko-owned companies, for engaging in activities “directly linked to Putin” amidst the confrontation over Ukraine.

The story of the controversial plant involves the Assad regime, Russian-Syrian businessmen, the Islamic State, and moderate Syrian groups, which together tried to activate the facility for the financial and logistical benefits it could provide for them.

The Syrian government originally awarded the contract to construct the Tuweinan facility to Stroytransgaz in 2007. The construction utilized a Syrian subcontractor, Hesco, which was owned by Russian-Syrian dual national George Haswani. Last November, the Treasury Department sanctioned Haswani for allegedly brokering oil sales between the Islamic State and the Assad regime, charges he denies.

The partnership between Hesco and Stroytransgaz goes far beyond this one deal. The companies have worked in joint projects in Sudan, Algeria, Iraq, and the UAE since 2000, according to Haswani’s son-in-law, Yusef Arbash, who runs Hesco’s Moscow office.

Construction continued slowly until a coalition of Syrian rebel groups seized the facility in a joint operation with the al Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front in January 2013. Abu Khalid, a member of the Qwais al-Qarani brigade, which was a part of the rebel coalition, said that when they entered the area, Russian engineers and advisors had already fled, leaving Syrian employees behind. “We decided to protect this plant; we thought it is belonging to Syrian people since it was owned by the Syrian state,” he said.

The Islamic State has been in control of the facility since early 2014. A senior Turkish official said that after its seizure, Stroytransgaz, through its subcontractor Hesco, continued the facility’s construction with the Islamic State’s permission. He also claimed that Russian engineers have been working at the facility to complete the project.

Syrian state-run newspaper Tishreen published a report appearing to corroborate this claim. In January 2014, after the facility was captured by the Islamic State, the paper cited Syrian government sources, saying that Stroytransgaz had completed 80 percent of the project and expected to hand over the facility to the regime during the second half of the year. The article didn’t mention that the facility was under the control of the Islamic State.

According to David Butter, an associate fellow at London-based Chatham House, who has seen a letter written by George Haswani explaining the details of the project, the facility’s first phase of production started towards the end of 2014, and it became fully operational during 2015. “Some of the natural gas goes to the Aleppo power station, which operates under the Islamic State’s protection, and the remainder is pumped to Homs and Damascus,” he said."

Mapped: Why negative interest rates herald new danger for the world
Yahoo. Telegraph By Mehreen Khan February 15th, 2016
Negative rates are becoming the "new abnormal" in a shaky world economy. But with fresh panic hitting markets, are we finally hitting the limits of what monetary policy can achieve? Click on the countries to find out
The world's tentative experiment with negative interest rates got off to an unremarkable start.
Sweden's Riksbank - the world's oldest central bank - became the first major monetary authority to cross the rubicon and take its main policy rate into the red exactly a year ago to the month.
The Riksbank’s move followed the like of Switzerland and Denmark, who had turned negative in a bid to stimulate flagging inflation and halt the punishing appreciation of their currencies.
But sub-zero rates did not cause immediate panic in financial markets that central bankers were "losing control".
Neither did they seem to produce any deleterious economic effects in their host countries, as savers continued to keep their money deposited in banks rather than fleeing for the safety of cash. Commercial lenders, meanwhile, adjusted their business models to help maintain profitability.

‘Dogs of war’: Profiteering military contractors must be regulated, warns charity
RT UK 15 Feb, 2016
Private firms based in Britain are reaping huge profits by exploiting conflict and instability around the world in the absence of proper regulation, a British charity has warned.
The remarks were made by War on Want, following the charity’s release of a report examining the devastating impact of private military and security companies (PMSCs) around the globe.
Writing on War on Want's website, the charity's communications chief, Ross Hemingway, called for an “end to the privatization of war.”
“For too long this murky world of ‘guns for hire’ has been allowed to grow unchecked, and in letting the industry regulate itself the UK government has failed,” he said.
“Binding regulation is long overdue. The Swiss government has already banned all PMSCs based in Switzerland from operating in conflict; it is time the UK followed suit.”

Op-Edge: ‘Turkey wants to stop Kurds liberating northern Syria from ISIS’
RT 14 Feb, 2016
Turkey’s shelling of Syria is a warning to the Kurds to stop trying to free the northern part of the country from Islamic State (IS, previously ISIS/ISIL), Kobane-based political analyst Barzan Iso told RT, citing reports of civilians injured in the attacks.
“Turkey is trying to prevent Kurds from liberating the area around the Turkish border from IS,” Iso said. “The YPG [Kurdish People’s Protection] units are stronger than before and have the ability to free the area around Turkey from ISIS.”
The reasons for Turkey’s aggressive move is not just profitable relations with Islamic State, the Kurdish analyst said, referring to the cheap IS oil exports that Turkey has reportedly been receiving. Moreover, he argued, IS fighters in northern Syria also create a useful buffer zone for Ankara that could eventually help Turkey “occupy” the territory between Aleppo and Turkey’s border.
This is just the first signal that Turkey will be further intervening into Syria, he said.
Turkey shelled positions of Syrian government forces in Aleppo and Latakia provinces as well as Kurdish targets near the city of Azaz, in northwestern Syria. This included an air base recently retaken from jihadists reportedly with Russian air support.

In the course of the last week, February 4-11, aircraft of the Russian aviation group in the Syrian Arab Republic have performed 510 combat sorties engaging 1,888 terrorists’ objects in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, Deir ez-Zor, Daraa, Homs, Hasakah and Raqqah.
Near Bruma (Latakia province), a strong point and a mortar position of terrorists were eliminated. The objective monitoring data registered complete destruction of engineering fortifications and the battery.
During air duty mission, Su-25 attack aircraft detected 3 hardware columns transporting militants, armament and munitions along the highway Al-Qaryatayn – Homs. The strike resulted in elimination of 9 heavy trucks with munitions and more than 40 militants.
Near al-Ghariyah al-Gharbiyah (Daraa province), a Su-34 bomber made a strike on an ISIS strong point. The direct hit of a guided munition caused complete destruction of the terrorists’ fortifications. Objective monitoring data confirmed elimination of 2 pieces of militants’ armored hardware.
Terrorists are suffering significant losses caused by aviation strikes of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Two powerful field commanders were liquidated in the Aleppo province.
In the suburbs of Kalaz-Tahtani, a large illegal armed group with its commander, “Abu Maher” (“Farid Al-Misri”) was eliminated by an airstrike.
The field commander “Abu Anas Al-Sham” from the Jaysh al-Sham terrorist group was liquidated in the territory of the same province.
Large-scale desertion is registered in illegal armed groups located near Aleppo.
Terrorists are frightening civilians and making people go to the Turkish borderline. Having left their weapons, militants are making efforts to “blend” into the crowd because they know that the Russian aviation and Syrian government forces do not carry out strikes against civilians.
However, pictures of these people along with accusations brought against Russian aircraft of allegedly vandal bombardments of Aleppo have been spread all over Western TV screens since last week.
It came to the point that pictures of Aleppo destroyed long before the start of the Russian operation in Syria, are demonstrated by leading American and European channels as consequences of allegedly Russian bombardments.
As it is said, hand of experienced conductor is felt.
Therefore, it is not a tendency. Starting harping on the favorite tune with accusations against Russia of committing all deadly sins as well as hushing up the effectiveness of aviation activities in Syria as a state secret from the taxpayers became regular.
A recent example.
Yesterday official spokesman of the Pentagon Colonel Steve Warren being in Iraq stated that allegedly Russian bombers had bombed two hospitals in Aleppo in the daytime.
According to him, as a result, allegedly about 50 thousand Syrians were deprived from vital services.
This official spokesman failed to give anything else. No information on the time, coordinates and sources of this data.
Just nothing.
The Russian party had a night for examination of this information.
Nonsense of the rights activists from London is one thing.
But if it is declared by the Pentagon representative posing as a military professional – that is another thing.
The Russian Ministry of Defence has thoroughly analyzed all the data concerning the targets engaged yesterday in the Aleppo province.
First of all, Colonel Warren is likely to be disappointed – he did not guess.
Russian aircraft did not work near the Aleppo city yesterday.
The nearest target to the city was more than 20 km far from it.
Only aviation of the anti-ISIS coalition flew over the city yesterday: warplanes and strike UAVs.
As it has been promised previously to the American partners, this information will not be hidden any more.
Yesterday at 13:55 (MSK), two A-10 attack aircraft of the U.S. Air Force entered the Syrian air space from the territory of Turkey and reaching Aleppo by the shortest path made strikes against objects in the city so that one wouldn't wish for more.
Colonel Warren, for some reason, did not make this mission public in the literal and even figurative sense.

Continues under.

The Russian party will not become similar to the American Colonel and it is to be said frankly: there had not been enough time to identify precisely those 9 objects engaged yesterday in Aleppo. Perhaps, there had been two hospitals among them. The Russian Defence Ministry will find it out.
The attention is to be paid to the fact that the situation is similar to the one where the Americans bombed a hospital in the city of Kunduz (Afghanistan) or positions of the Iraqi Army in Fallujah. The first steps are unsubstantiated statements against the Russian party – to divert all suspicion from themselves.
If it keeps going that way, the Russian Defence Ministry will have to hold two briefings every time: first for the Russian party and second for those guys from the coalition who consider themselves professionals.
Over and over again the Russian Defence department hears an old song that the Russian aviation is performing strikes NOT ONLY against ISIS terrorists.
Western refined experts must know that NOT ALL terrorists in Syria are walking with black flags and writings on their backs about belonging to a terrorist grouping.
The Russian Armed Forces in cooperation with partners have deployed a multilevel intelligence system providing credible target detection. Aviation strikes are carried out against assigned targets only after additional check of the received data and elimination of risks for the civilians’ lives.
Moreover, everybody already knows that detachments of the Syrian opposition are sharing reconnaissance data with us quite effectively. Today most of them are cooperating with the Syrian government.
Thus, on February 8, as a result of negotiations, the state flag of the Syrian Arab Republic has been risen in the settlement of Etbaa (Daraa province). Militants stopped resistance in the town and deliberately laid down their arms.
It is to be reminded that the Russian Ministry of Defence has openly addressed to the US and European representatives and suggested to exchange information on terrorists’ coordinates in Syria.
They have gratefully taken the Russian maps. Without a word in response.
But today they are criticizing the Russian party saying that the Russian aircraft are flying in the wrong areas and making strikes on wrong objects.
Perhaps there are updated maps to be sent?
Several months ago, the Russian Defence Ministry mentioned a tendency that the more successful the Russian strikes on terrorists are, the more the Russian party is accused of indiscriminate strikes.
Although, after examination of materials of the Western media, it seems that the cities and towns uncontrolled by the Syrian government are occupied only by representatives of temporal opposition and their rights advocates.
However powdered or fed the terrorist is – he will not become a member of opposition.
Attention is to be paid to the fact that the Pentagon has recently advised to change the Russian strategy in Syria in order to “help” the USA to assure the political transition of power.
The advisers are to be reminded that the objective of the Russian operation in Syria is elimination of terrorism which constitutes the real and evident threat to the security of Russia and the world.
All the political issues must be resolved only by the Syrians themselves, with international mediation. Not in the trenches, but at the negotiating table.
There have not been and will not be any other “strategies”.
In the recent five years, the Russian party has been observing the results of the Washingtonian strategies of “political transitions” in the Middle East and near the Russian borders. Instead of the “triumph of the democracy” – devastation, blood, refugees.
Is not it the reason for the fact that the transatlantic “strategists” have started talking about the necessity of “ground operations” in Syria and Libya?
Perhaps, the advisers should stop stepping on the same rake?

Deliberately bombing hospitals to blame on the ruskies? How low will the zios' NATO stoop? Or was it the Pentagonners?
