Evil Games: The Phony War in Iraq and Syria

May 19, 2015 by Gordon Duff, Senior Editor with Nahed al Husaini and Nouri al Maliki (former President of Iraq)

Last week, on the Australian Broadcast Corporation, a parent whose child had joined ISIS told their story.  Remember, this is mainstream media.  The grief stricken parent gave a tearful account of their child being recruit, taken to Israel for training…

When that was said, nothing happened, the world didn’t stop spinning, they were tackled to the ground, no one edited this out of the film and no one called the network, not the powerful Jewish groups that had for years silenced any discussion of 9/11.

Yesterday, dozens of Chechen fighters were killed south of Damascus.  Only hours before they had been inside Israel.  It isn’t just that President Obama is silent about this.  It isn’t simply that international laws are being violated, no one has cared about them since they were written.  Things have gone well beyond that.

We have entered a new era.

Yesterday ISIS stormed into Ramadi.  Media reported the Iraqi Army abandoning heavy weapons and vehicles.  We will look at the events of that day and today and pass on analysis and raw intelligence from our team which includes former Iraqi President Nouri al Maliki, Dr. Bassam Barakat of Syria and our Damascus Bureau Chief, Nahed al Husaini.

Iraq has turned to Iran to retake Ramadi.  It will be reported as simply going to the Shiite majority, it is much more than that.  Today, delegations from Iran are in both Damascus and Baghdad.  The US is being called on the carpet for full and absolute duplicity in its handling of the war on ISIS.

These are the facts, on the ground:

• The Ramadi attack was supported by US air drops to ISIS troops, this is fully confirmed.
• The US is now seen as fully complicit in blocking the recapture of Iraqi cities by the forces of militias, the army and the Pergmersha.
• A broad coalition in Iraq, both Sunni and Shiite, are calling for US withdrawal and an end to coalition activities including supposed “air support.”  US personnel in Iraq are now considered “persona non grata.”
• The Iraqi Air Force is now bombing ISIS positions in Ramadi.  The US and its coalition forces are not.
• The Iranian Defense Minister is currently in Baghdad.
• Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Iyad Allawi met with US Ambassador to Iraq Steward Jones to discuss Ramadi at length.
• Alawi told the US Ambassador that the Coalition must seriously fight ISIS and the other extremist group, some of which the US is supporting in Syria and are now attacking Iraq as well.

The Americans are playing a dirty role in the war against ISIS due to pressure from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, who are fully backing ISIS.

These nations are dedicated to destabilizing Iraq.

There is also great internal dissension in Iraq and in particular in parliament as to how to deal with ISIS.

What We Know

Documents recovered last week tell an unusual story of a coalition between Israel, American “Dominionists,” many within the military, others “big names” like Rice and Cheney, a story of mythology, of Templars and a plan to destroy the Mosque of al Aqsa on the Temple Mount, of armies of Djinns and a missing temple in the ancient city of Palmyra.

What we do know is America’s “end game” has nothing to do with winning a war, that Israel and Saudi Arabia aren’t in this to offset either Russia or Iran and that religion or mythology, something powerful, conspiratorial and amazing is at the heart of it all.

ISIS is all about belief.

American Credibility

There is none.  America’s credibility is gone, trying to play the game for the Gulf States and the Saudis, playing the fool in Yemen, none of it has worked.  Ignoring Turkey and their complicity, silence on Israel, undermining the Kurds, America is burying itself with both Sunnis and Shiites, no one will believe anything America says.

When Saudi Arabia left the coalition, the US kept it secret.  When the US stopped air support in Iraq, they began claiming Iraqi and Syrian sorties as “coalition” though these are Russian aircraft and pilots who are more than aware that they are not flying for an American led coalition but more likely against it.

The rumors of accidentally dropped supplies to ISIS, rumors the US had lied their way out of are also at an end.  There are now dozens of such “accidents” in the past week.  If the Iranian trained Shiite militias retake Ramadi, America will never recover.

America will never recover.

The Fall of Ramadi and the Criminality of US Imperialism
By Bill Van Auken
Global Research, May 20, 2015
World Socialist Web Site
Nearly a year after the debacle suffered by US imperialism and the regime it imposed during more than eight bloody years of war and occupation of Iraq—the fall of the country’s second largest city, Mosul to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)—a similar collapse has unfolded in Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, Iraq’s largest province.
Attempts by the White House, the State Department and the Pentagon to dismiss the events in Ramadi as a minor setback are either disingenuous or delusional. As in Mosul, Iraq’s US-trained and armed regular army largely melted away in the face of an offensive by the Islamist guerrillas. And once again, it has left behind large stores of US-supplied weaponry, ranging from dozens of armored cars and tanks to artillery and other armaments and vast quantities of ammunition, all of it now in ISIS hands.
Just as with Mosul, the fall of Ramadi has unleashed a new humanitarian catastrophe on the war-ravaged people of Iraq, with hundreds, if not thousands, of civilians killed and tens of thousands turned into homeless refugees. Those who remain face the threat of violence at the hands of ISIS as well as sectarian reprisals from the Shiite militias that are massing for a bid to retake the city.
This latest debacle has unfolded nearly 10 months into the Obama administration’s “Operation Inherent Resolve,” the title given to Washington’s latest military intervention in the Middle East. It has provoked criticism within ruling circles of US strategy, which has consisted of US airstrikes against both Iraq and Syria, the deployment of nearly 5,000 US ground troops in Iraq and the launching of a $500 million program to train and arm so-called Syrian “rebels.”
There is a growing drumbeat for sending greater numbers of US ground forces more directly into the fighting. The Washington Post published an editorial Tuesday charging that “the US lacks a strategy to fulfill President Obama’s pledge to ‘degrade and ultimately destroy’” ISIS. It demands that the administration commit US military units to “work with Iraqi forces on the ground.”
Similarly, the Wall Street Journal published a column urging “more ground operations by Special Operations forces” as well as the deployment of “Apache attack helicopters and transport planes,” along with an entire brigade “dedicated to improving operational command and intelligence support.”
It is no accident that amid this drive for the escalation of the ongoing US intervention another, thoroughly dishonest, debate has played out in the context of the 2016 presidential election campaign, over whether the launching of the March 2003 invasion of Iraq was a “mistake” or a justified response to what proved “faulty intelligence.”

Austerity agenda: ‘We can’t throw money at the poor,’ says Labour MP
Published time: May 20, 2015
Labour can’t solve inequality in Britain by simply covering it with a “monetary sticking plaster,” Shadow Education Secretary Tristram Hunt says.
Hunt’s comments come as it is confirmed he will not run for the role of Labour chief following Ed Miliband’s crushing general election defeat on May 7.
He is believed to have withdrawn from the leadership race when it transpired he would be unlikely to secure sufficient backing from MPs in order to stand.
Those who remain in the race continue in their bids to lead a party reeling from an electoral defeat, which saw it virtually wiped out in Scotland.

Third of UK people lived below poverty line - ONS
May 20, 2015
A third of the UK population lived below the official poverty line at some point between 2010 and 2013, Britain’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said. But this group of the poor is constantly changing, the study shows.
About 19.3 million people, experienced poverty in at least one year between 2010 and 2013, according to a release by Britain’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) published on Wednesday.
“In contrast, across the EU as a whole, a quarter (25 percent) of people were in poverty at least once during that period, with a larger proportion of people in the UK experiencing poverty at least once over those 4 years than in many other EU country,” ONS added.
The lowest level of so-called “persistent poverty” in the UK, which makes 7.8 percent, or 4.6 million people, compared to 15.9 percent in the EU signals that the chances of overcoming poverty are relatively high, according to the ONS.
A person is considered living in poverty if he lives in a household with a disposable income below 60 percent of the national average. Persistent poverty means a person has been poor in the current year and at least two out of the three preceding years.

Jewish oligarchs are the puppeteers behind American politicians
May 21, 2015 by michaellee2009
Hillary Clinton’s Jewish Handler – Univision Media Boss Donates Millions and Pushes for Amnesty
I’m surprised that National Review would publish this, but for some reason the “mainstream” has been becoming much more open to discussing how Jewish oligarchs are the puppeteers behind American politicians:
“Weeks after Hillary Clinton became secretary of state, the State Department objected to a proposed consultancy arrangement offered to Bill Clinton by media mogul Haim Saban, citing concerns about conflict of interest. Nevertheless, public records show that Saban’s nonprofit gave millions to the Clinton Foundation throughout Hillary Clinton’s tenure."
Saban, a billionaire best known for creating Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, has dual U.S.-Israeli citizenship and has spent heavily to support Israel. “His greatest concern, he says, is to protect Israel, by strengthening the United States-Israel relationship,” The New Yorker noted in a 2010 profile of Saban. At a conference in Israel, the article said, Saban had outlined three methods for influencing American politics: “make donations to political parties, establish think tanks, and control media outlets.” …
Yet between 2009 and 2013, as Hillary Clinton served as secretary of state, the Saban Family Foundation paid the Clinton Foundation more than $7 million, and listed $30.5 million in “grants and contributions approved for future payment,” according to nonprofit records filed with the Internal Revenue Service. It’s unclear whether there was any overlap between the $7 million paid and $30.5 million committed to the Clinton Foundation in those years.”…
Note: I believe Haim Saban also owns Univision which is now the largest television network in the US.

“First Strike” Attack against Iran? Washington’s “Missile Defense” Deal with the Gulf Mona
U.S. on Wrong Side of History: This new Gulf states agreement is dangerous, provocative, destabilizing and very expensive
By Bruce Gagnon, May 18, 2015
Global Research
Space fro Peace
When the attacked nation attempts to fire a retaliatory strike it is then that the MD systems are used to pick off the remaining military capability thus giving the Pentagon a “successful” first-strike.
This is what it has all come down to…. the US and the corrupt, dictatorial Gulf monarchies meeting at Camp David Thursday and agreeing on a plan to flood the Middle East with ‘missile defense’ (MD) systems.
These Gulf monarchies are the essential allies of the US in the world now (in addition to a few other fascist-leaning nations). Together they are destabilizing and creating chaos in Syria, Yemen, Ukraine and beyond. This meeting is evidence of the desperation and the moral decay of the USA.
Obama announced that that he would streamline weapon sales and increase joint military exercises with Bahrain (home to US Navy Central Command and the Fifth Fleet), Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as part of an “iron-clad commitment” that the United States will help protect them against their neighbor and rival Iran. The Gulf states claim they fear Iran’s nuclear weapons even after recent successful negotiations to ensure they don’t build any.

With the despised Patriot Act up for renewal -
As Propaganda Fails Baghdadi Announces A Bigger 9/11
The propaganda war in Iraq and Syria is shifting into a higher gear.
The U.S. led International Coalition for Operation Inherent Resolve against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria announced on May 9:
DAESH defeated in al-Anbar – DAESH was beaten in Ramadi, Kurma, and Tharthar.#CJTFOIR
Well, not so fast. There were also rumors that the Caliph Baghdadi, the head of the Islamic State, was incapacitated and that his number two was killed in an air strike. The death of the Baathist leader of the Naqshbandi Order Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri had also been announced. Al-Douri's men had fought together with the Islamic State in its first big offense in Iraq but were shunned as soon as the Islamic State took over Mosul.
Today it turned out that none of those propagandized successes was sustained:
The Islamic State on Friday took control of the provincial government center of Ramadi, the capital of Iraq’s largest province, in a major defeat for the Iraqi government.
Islamic State forces also appeared to be closing in on two other key locations in Anbar province, the towns of Baghdadi and Kharma, in a broad offensive that if successful would end the government presence in any of the province’s major population centers.
The announced defeat of DEASH, or IS, in al-Anbar did not hold very long. Six huge suicide car bombs were enough to completely change the situation in Ramadi.

Obama Administration Dilly-dallying On Islamic State Action
May 19, 2015
The Islamic State took Ramadi with the help of armored bulldozers and some 10 suicide vehicles. That many of the nominal defenders of the city had no real will to fight also helped. But there is another important actor that allowed it to happen. In the critical 24 hours the U.S. coalition which had promised to defend Iraq and to defeat the Islamic State launched just seven air strikes and all only against minor IS targets around the city. That's like nothing.
Now the paltry "dog ate my homework" excuse is a sandstorm no one but the U.S. air support group noticed.
Yesterday the Islamic State held victory parades around Ramadi. A hundred vehicles with black flags parading on a wide open road with black flags on every streetlight pole.
The pictures show a bright and sunny blue sky. No U.S. air interdiction was seen. Remarks one knowledgeable tweep looking at those pictures:
The Islamic State in Ramādī yesterday. Quite amazing the coalition didn't take them out actually. Makes one wonder about the coalitions rules of engagement. Now it "looks" as if Ramādī was offered to them on a silver plate ...

Ukraine SITREP May 20th, 2015 by Scott
May 20, 2015
“A child was murdered with a weapon of mass destruction, two young women as well, a police officer was executed in the line of duty. So when you look at the gravity and the harm and when you look as well at the many many victims who became amputees … and then you look at the motives … these were political motives.” [Source]
Let me guess…a judge said this about the bombing of Gaza civilians while delivering her guilty verdict against the government of Israel. No, she didn’t. Did she say it against the NATO bombing of civilians in Yugoslavia killing thousands and violating every international law and treaty in the book? Nope, that didn’t happen either. About the bombing of Syria? Nein… Maybe, she said this about the Western backed Wahabbies who attacked the elementary school in Russian Beslan on September 1, 2004? No. Quite the opposite. The US called those militants the “rebels,” as also those terrorist groups who killed hundreds of hostages in the Moscow Nord-Ost theater in 2002. Instead, the Western media condemned the rescuers in the death of hundreds innocent children and adults, while white-washing the terrorists as “freedom fighters.”
Did an American judge say this about the continuing terroristic shelling by the Kiev junta of Donetsk and other Donbass towns and villages where thousands of perfectly innocent people are being killed, while leaving the survivors to exist as mutilated amputees? Did she say this about 48 innocent civilians, including a university student, a local poet, a pregnant woman and a child, who were burned alive in Odessa on May 2, 2014, by the Right Sector Ukro-Nazis, while the survivors of this vicious attack are still imprisoned by the Kiev fascist regime? Wrong again. According to the US Senate’s new military budget [Source] simply states that the genocide of Russians in Ukraine is done with a lofty task of “(2) Protecting and defending the Ukrainian people from attacks posed by Russian-backed separatists.” And, in case you ask, those people in Donesk all killed themselves.
Make no mistake. There is no Western judge who would ever condemn the killings of non-English speaking people.

The escalating Mediterranean situation
20 May 2015
With the EU approving the use of force against people-smugglers in Libya – Malta-based security expert Marshall Consultants investigates the maritime security threats that are forcing them to act.
Foreign and defence ministers of the EU-28 have recently met to approve a mission to forcefully destroy infrastructure used by people-smugglers in Libya. At the meeting, they finalised and approved plans for search and destroy operations and put in place command-and-control structures for the mission. They must now await backing from the United Nations before operations commence.
The plan is a controversial element of the EU’s response to the trafficking of migrants in the region. It will be focused initially on gathering intelligence and taking action against vessels in international waters. The final phase will see direct action against boats in Libyan waters and in Libyan ports, currently occupied by regional and Islamist militants.
The mission is ostensibly a response to the humanitarian crisis, but, the nature and extent of the operation will have been heavily influenced by the political and security concerns surrounding the role of militant groups in the region.
Smugglers reportedly make up to $1M per transit, this allows militant groups such as ISIS to make significant economic gains from a trade that carried more than 214,000 people last year alone.
EU leaders are understandably reluctant to let this continue as they seek to check the momentum of the group in the region. A response to the threat is deemed of such importance that permission from Libya is being sought, but has not yet been granted.
A spokesman from Libya’s internationally recognised Government in Tobruk, Hatem el-Ouryabi, has spoken out against the plan, “The government will not accept any violation of Libyan sovereignty," Ouraybi said, and "will not accept the plan unless it is coordinated" with Libya's internationally recognised administration.
Security experts in the region have been reluctant to fully back the plans. Ralph Marshall of Marshall Consultants Group is not convinced that the plan tackles the root causes of the humanitarian crisis, “It may slow smugglers down but the demand will remain and the vessel quality will more than likely deteriorate.”
Marshall added, “We’re actually concerned that it will decrease security in the Mediterranean, the trade is so lucrative for smugglers that they’ll be forced to seek new ways to secure vessels, this could lead to an increased threat of seizure for commercial and private shipping in the region.”

Turkey Opposition Accuses Government of Sending Arms to Syria
Turkish opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu on Wednesday accused the government of delivering arms to terrorist militants in Syria, pledging to seal the border to such traffic if he came to power.
Turkey has been under fire for shipping arms to insurgents in Syria-- charges vehemently denied by Ankara.
"There are videos showing how cases in trucks were opened and images of bombs. I also watched them," Kilicdaroglu of the Republican People's Party (CHP), told the Hurriyet newspaper in an interview. "There is nothing to hide here," he said.
Kilicdaroglu pledged to bolster security on the Turkish-Syrian border if his CHP party came to power in June 7 general elections. Polls show the CHP running in second place, after the ruling AKP party.
[...] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the weekend said that the checks on the trucks were "treason" and deserved to be punished.
