Confirmed: US “Operation Rooms” Backing Al Qaeda in Syria
By Tony Cartalucci
US policy think-tank Brookings Institution confirms that contrary to propaganda, US-Saudi “moderates” and Turkey-Qatar “Islamists” have been coordinating all along.
The war in Syria continues to drag on, with a recent and renewed vigor demonstrated behind an opposition long portrayed as fractured and reflecting a myriad of competing foreign interests. Chief among these competing interests, the public has been told, were the US and Saudis on one side, backing so-called “moderate rebels,” and Turkey and Qatar on the other openly backing Al Qaeda and its various franchises including the Islamic State (ISIS).
However, for those following the conflict closely, it was clear from the beginning and by the West’s own admissions that success hinged on covertly providing arms, cash, equipment, and both political and military support to Al Qaeda and other sectarian extremists, not opposed by Saudi Arabia, but rather by using Saudi Arabia as the primary medium through which Western material support could be laundered.
And this fact is now confirmed in a recent article published on the Brookings Institution’s website titled, “Why Assad is losing.”
It states unequivocally that (emphasis added):
The involvement of FSA groups, in fact, reveals how the factions’ backers have changed their tune regarding coordination with Islamists. Several commanders involved in leading recent Idlib operations confirmed to this author that the U.S.-led operations room in southern Turkey, which coordinates the provision of lethal and non-lethal support to vetted opposition groups, was instrumental in facilitating their involvement in the operation from early April onwards. That operations room — along with another in Jordan, which covers Syria’s south — also appears to have dramatically increased its level of assistance and provision of intelligence to vetted groups in recent weeks.
Whereas these multinational operations rooms have previously demanded that recipients of military assistance cease direct coordination with groups like Jabhat al-Nusra, recent dynamics in Idlib appear to have demonstrated something different. Not only were weapons shipments increased to the so-called “vetted groups,” but the operations room specifically encouraged a closer cooperation with Islamists commanding frontline operations.
Overall, Brookings is pleased to report that with the infiltration and overrunning of much of Idlib in northern Syria, it appears their long-stated goal of creating a seat of power for their proxies within Syria’s borders and perhaps even extending NATO aircover over it, may finally be at hand . Brookings still attempts to perpetuate an adversarial narrative between the West and Al Qaeda, despite admitting that it was only with Western backing that recent offensives spearheaded by Al Qaeda itself were successful.
In reality, as far back as 2007, it was the admitted policy of the then Bush-led White House to begin arming and funding sectarian extremists, including Al Qaeda, through the use of intermediaries including Saudi Arabia. Veteran journalist and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Seymour Hersh in his report "The Redirection: Is the Administration’s new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?"  would lay bare this conspiracy which has since then unfolded verbatim as described in 2007.
The above-mentioned Brookings article also alludes to a grander geopolitical landscape taking shape beyond the Syrian conflict. It states in regards to the US now openly backing what is for all intents and purposes an Al Qaeda-led offensive that:
The most likely explanation for such a move is pressure from the newly emboldened regional alliance comprising Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The United States also is looking for ways to prove its continued alignment with its traditional Sunni Gulf allies, amid the broader context of its rapprochement with Iran.
The continuation, even expansion of the US-backed conflict in Syria is the most telling evidence of all regarding the disingenuous nature of America’s rapprochement with Iran. The entire goal of destabilizing and potentially overthrowing the government in Syria is to weaken Iran ahead of a similar campaign of encirclement, destabilization, and destruction within Iran itself.
The fact that events in Syria are being accelerated, with Brookings itself admitting that “international and ideological differences,” have been “pushed to the side,” illustrates a palpable desperation among the West to finish the conflict in Syria in hopes of moving forward toward Iran before regional dynamics and Iran’s own defensive posture renders moot the West’s entire regional agenda, jeopardizing its long-standing hegemony across North Africa and the Middle East.
Similarly rushed operations appear to be underway in Yemen. With Western-backed conflicts embroiling virtually every nation surrounding Iran, the idea that the US seeks anything but Iran’s eventual destruction, let alone “rapprochement” must surely have no one fooled in Tehran.
While Brookings enthusiastically reports on the continued destruction in Syria it itself played a part in engineering and promoting, it still admits that overthrowing Syria’s legitimate government is not inevitable. While it attempts to portray Syria’s allies as withdrawing support for Damascus, the reality is that if and when Syria falls, Syria’s allies are indisputably next in line.
Iran will face an entire nation handed over to Al Qaeda and other heavily armed and well-backed sectarian extremists dreaming of a cataclysmic confrontation with Tehran, fueled by a global network of US-Saudi backed madrases turning out legions of ideologically poisoned zealots. And beyond Iran, Russia faces the prospect of its Caucasus region being turned into a corridor of terror aimed straight at the heart of Russia itself.
The conflict in Syria is but a single battle among a much larger war — a global war constituting what is basically a third World War, fought not upon vast but clearly defined fronts, but rather through the use of fourth generation warfare, proxies, mercenaries, economics, and information. For those that fail to see how Syria is linked to the survival of many nations beyond its borders and the very concept of a multi-polar world built upon the concept of national sovereignty, they invite not just Damascus’ defeat, but that of the world as we know it.

In Plain Sight: Coalition Forces Routinely Air-Drop Military Supplies to ISIS Fighters In Syria
Feb 18, 2015 By 21st Century Wire says…
Deconstructing one of the biggest ISIS myths…
A plethora of mythology has been spun in the US media about ISIS “controls large parts of the Middle East”, when in reality they do not. This highly inflatable concept is easy to sell to US audiences who struggle to find Syria on a map. There are areas in Iraq and Syria which are unstable, and smaller areas yet, which are experiencing intense fighting, but ISIS does not control “large areas” of the region.
When you knock down that first domino, then other dominoes fall with it, like the myth of “ISIS maintains a vast network of supply lines in the region.” Again, more myth-making generated by a typically over-exaggerating mainstream media – designed to support the original thesis. There are terrorist units spread out in an array of isolated pockets in Syria and Iraq, so with that being the case, what would be the easiest way to deliver supplies to troops in the field? It turns out that the answer is much simpler than the overblown fish story our media is selling us….
HIDDEN IN PLAIN ‘S.I.T.E.': Pentagon and Israel media arm SITE has been helping to stage-manage the ‘accidental weapons drop’ narrative.
Pay attention. The article below was posted in Oct. 2014 by online Israeli tabloid site,Vocativ, which illustrates how poorly the ISIS camouflage performs in the field; the real story is casually hidden in plain sight. The video at the end of this story shows that ISIS is receiving weapons and supply drops from above. The official line on this story attempts to cloud and obfuscate the obvious. The Pentagon and US media both constantly claim that, somehow, ISIS has “got a hold of American weapons and ammunition that the U.S. military had dropped for Kurdish forces in Syria.” Sure it is.
It’s a subtle and very convenient way to explain away what you are witnessing with your own eyes: that ‘Coalition’ air forces are routinely dropping supplies to ISIS fighters in Syria. It’s becoming a regular occurrence, appearing in the media on multiple occasions reported here, here and here. The mainstream will constantly steer its captive audiences away from the obvious – that one of the reasons that ISIS is so formidable is that they are being steadily supplied with US military-grade war materials.
Who has operational control of the skies over Syria and Iraq now? Answer: the Pentagon-led coalition. In addition, US ally Israel is also flying regular missions over Syria too, and they could also be involved in supplying ISIS fighters too.
Air-dropping supplies to covert paramilitary rebel or fighting groups is nothing new for the US. Whether it’s in Nicaragua (arms, cash, for cocaine), El Salvador (arms for cannabis) and Cambodia/Laos (arms, cash, for heroin), or in Syria (arms, supplies, for captagon?), it’s always been a key component to any US clandestine operation. The practice became famous following the hit film, Air America, which detailed the U.S. Government and CIA covert courier service used to support illegal military operations in areas the U.S. Armed forces could not go into, as was the case with South East Asia due to treaty restraints contained in the 1954 and 1962 Geneva Accords. It seems like Air America is back in business.
Watch the video at the end [below]. See for yourself…

This Army Surplus Camo Might Make ISIS Easier to Hit
ISIS might be the latest victim of America’s need to constantly be on trend. The extremist group seems to have taken old U.S. Army uniforms that were proven to be horrible at disguising American soldiers over two years ago, making its jihadis easy targets in battle.
In the past month, photos have appeared online of high-ranking ISIS officers wearing fatigues that look exactly like the American uniform design known as UCP.
The dysfunctional UCP Army uniform, which basically looks like an old Windows computer screen capture of a fatigue pattern, was created in 2004 in response to some Army soldiers who literally just wanted to look cooler. The pattern on the uniform is technically more fashionable, depending on your taste, but also gives little to no camouflage protection in combat. The U.S. spent $5 billion on it only to find it was a danger to the soldiers. In 2012, the Army introduced new and improved fatigues, but ISIS might be stuck with the old pattern. Photos of ISIS commanders potentially wearing the old American uniforms are made more actual by the fact that ISIS posted a video online Tuesday claiming it got a hold of American weapons and ammunition that the U.S. military had dropped for Kurdish forces in Syria. You can watch the ISIS video of the alleged stolen weapons and ammunition here:

To say we were striving for a one-world government is exaggerated, but not wholly unfair.
Those of us in Bilderberg felt we couldn't go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing people and rendering millions homeless.
So we felt that a single community throughout the world would be a good thing.
Denis Healey 30-year member of the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Group

The ‘Foundations’ of the Bilderberg Group
The Bilderberg Group, formed in 1954, was founded in the Netherlands as a secretive meeting held once a year, drawing roughly 130 of the political-financial-military-academic-media elites from North America and Western Europe as,
“an informal network of influential people who could consult each other privately and confidentially.” [2]
Regular participants include the CEOs or Chairman of some of the largest corporations in the world, oil companies such as Royal Dutch Shell, British Petroleum, and Total SA, as well as various European monarchs, international bankers such as David Rockefeller, major politicians, presidents, prime ministers, and central bankers of the world.[3]
The Bilderberg Group acts as a,
“secretive global think-tank,” with an original intent to “to link governments and economies in Europe and North America amid the Cold War.” [4]
In the early 1950s, top European elites worked with selected American elites to form the Bilderberg Group in an effort to bring together the most influential people from both sides of the Atlantic to advance the cause of ‘Atlanticism’ and ‘globalism.’
The list of attendees were the usual suspects:
top politicians
international businessmen
leaders of think tanks and foundations
top academics and university leaders
media moguls
military officials,
...and Bilderberg also included several heads of state, monarchs, as well as senior intelligence officials, including top officials of the CIA, which was the main financier for the first meeting in 1954.[5]
The European founders of the Bilderberg Group included Joseph Retinger and Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands.
Prince Bernhard had, incidentally, been a member of the Nazi Party until 1934, three years prior to his marrying the Dutch Queen Juliana, and had also worked for the German industrial giant, I.G. Farben, the maker of Zyklon B, the gas used in concentration camps.[6]
On the American side, those who were most prominent in the formation of the Bilderberg Group were,
David Rockefeller
Dean Rusk (a top official with the Council on Foreign Relations who was then the head of the Rockefeller Foundation)
Joseph Johnson (another Council leader who was head of the Carnegie Endowment)
John J. McCloy (a top Council leader who became Chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank in 1953 and was also Chairman of the Board of the Ford Foundation).[7]
The fact that the major American foundations - Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Ford - were so pivotal in the origins of the Bilderberg Group is not a mere coincidence.
The foundations have, since their founding at the beginning of the 20th century, been the central institutions in constructing consensus among elites, and creating consent to power. They are, in short, the engines of social engineering: both for elite circles specifically, and society as a whole, more generally.
As Professor of Education Robert F. Arnove wrote in his book Philanthropy and Cultural Imperialism:
Foundations like Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Ford have a corrosive influence on a democratic society; they represent relatively unregulated and unaccountable concentrations of power and wealth which buy talent, promote causes, and, in effect, establish an agenda of what merits society’s attention.
They serve as “cooling-out” agencies, delaying and preventing more radical, structural change.
They help maintain an economic and political order, international in scope, which benefits the ruling-class interests of philanthropists and philanthropoids - a system which... has worked against the interests of minorities, the working class, and Third World peoples.[8]
clothcapclothcap on May 16th, 2015 07:34 pm (UTC)
These foundations had been central in promoting the ideology of ‘globalism’ that laid the groundwork for organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bilderberg Group to exist.
The Rockefeller Foundation, in particular, supported several organizations that promoted a ‘liberal internationalist’ philosophy, the aim of which:
was to support a foreign policy within a new world order that was to feature the United States as the leading power - a program defined by the Rockefeller Foundation as ‘disinterested’, ‘objective’ and even ‘non-political’...
The construction of a new internationalist consensus required the conscious, targeted funding of individuals and organizations who questioned and undermined the supporters of the ‘old order’ while simultaneously promoting the ‘new’.[9]
The major foundations funded and created not only policy-oriented institutes such as think tanks, but they were also pivotal in the organization and construction of universities and education itself, in particular, the study of ‘international relations.’ [10]
The influence of foundations over education and universities and thus, ‘knowledge’ itself, is unparalleled.
As noted in the book, Philanthropy and Cultural Imperialism:
The power of the foundation is not that of dictating what will be studied.
Its power consists in defining professional and intellectual parameters, in determining who will receive support to study what subjects in what settings. And the foundation’s power resides in suggesting certain types of activities it favors and is willing to support.
As [political theorist and economist Harold] Laski noted,
“the foundations do not control, simply because, in the direct and simple sense of the word, there is no need for them to do so. They have only to indicate the immediate direction of their minds for the whole university world to discover that it always meant to gravitate to that angle of the intellectual compass.” [11]
The major philanthropic foundations created by America’s ‘robber baron’ industrialists and bankers were established not to benefit mankind, as was their stated purpose, but to benefit the bankers and industrialist elites in order to engage in social engineering.
through banks, these powerful families controlled the global economy
through think tanks, they manage the political and foreign policy establishments
through foundations, they engineer society itself according to their own designs and interests
Through these foundations, elites have come to shape the processes, ideas and institutions of education, thus ensuring their continued hegemony over society through the production and control of knowledge.
The educational institutions train future elites for government, economics, sciences, and other professional environments, as well as producing the academics that make up the principle component of think tanks, such as the Bilderberg Group.
Foundations effectively “blur boundaries” between the public and private sectors, while simultaneously effecting the separation of such areas in the study of social sciences.
This boundary erosion between public and private spheres,
“adds feudal elements to our purported democracy, yet it has not been resisted, protested, or even noted much by political elites or social scientists.” [12]
Zbigniew Brzezinski, foreign policy strategist, former director of the Council on Foreign Relations, Bilderberg member and co-founder with David Rockefeller of the Trilateral Commission, wrote that the blurring of boundaries “serves United States world dominance”:
As the imitation of American ways gradually pervades the world, it creates a more congenial setting for the exercise of the indirect and seemingly consensual American hegemony.
And as in the case of the domestic American system, that hegemony involves a complex structure of interlocking institutions and procedures, designed to generate consensus and obscure asymmetries in power and influence.[13]
clothcapclothcap on May 16th, 2015 07:39 pm (UTC)
In 1915, a Congressional investigation into the power of philanthropic foundations took place, named the Walsh Commission, which warned that,
“the power of wealth could overwhelm democratic culture and politics.” [14]
The Final Report of the Walsh Commission,
“suggested that foundations would be more likely to pursue their own ideology in society than social objectivity.” [15]
In this context, we can come to understand the evolution of the Bilderberg Group as an international think tank aimed at constructing consensus and entrenching ideology among the elite.
At their first meeting, Bilderbergers covered the following broad areas, which remained focal points of discussion for successive meetings:
Communism and the Soviet Union
Dependent areas and peoples overseas
Economic policies and problems
European integration and the European Defense Community [16]
Nearly every single American participant in the Bilderberg meetings was also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Among the notable American members of the Bilderberg Group in its early years were,
David Rockefeller [Pilgrim]
Dean Rusk [Pilgrim]
John J. McCloy [Pilgrim]
George McGhee
George Ball
Walt Whitman Rostow
McGeorge Bundy
Arthur Dean [Pilgrim]
Paul Nitze
As Political Scientist Stephen Gill wrote,
“Prominent in the American section were the network of Rockefeller interests.” [17]
Certainly, while Rothschild interests have remained in the Bilderberg Group, as evidenced by Edmond de Rothschild having been a member of the Steering Committee, and Franco Bernabe, Vice Chairman of Rothschild Europe being a current Steering Committee member,[18] the Rockefeller interests seem to be most dominant.
Not only is David Rockefeller sitting as the single individual of the Member Advisory Group of the Steering Committee, but close Rockefeller confidantes have long served on the Steering Committee and been affiliated with the organization, such as:
Sharon Percy Rockefeller
George Ball, a long-time leader in the Council on Foreign Relations, who was Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations
Henry Kissinger, long-time Rockefeller aide and American imperial strategist [Pilgrim]
Zbigniew Brzezinski, who co-founded the Trilateral Commission with David Rockefeller [Pilgrim]
Joseph E. Johnson, former U.S. State Department official and President of the Carnegie Endowment for International [Pilgrim]
John J. McCloy, former Chairman the Council on Foreign Relations (superceded by David Rockefeller), former Assistant Secretary of War, Chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank (where he was superceded by David Rockefeller), former Trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation, Chairman of the Ford Foundation, and President of the World Bank [Pilgrim]
James Wolfensohn, former President of the World Bank and Trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation
One current Steering Committee member, who is representative of not only a continuation of Rockefeller interests, but also of the continuing influence and role of the major foundations is Jessica T. Matthews.
is President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, who had served on the National Security Council under Zbigniew Brzezinski
was a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (at which David Rockefeller remains as Honorary Chairman)
is a member of the Trilateral Commission
is a trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation
has served on the boards of the Brookings Institution, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Joyce Foundation

The pro-western liberal and secular democracy after Assad – Really?
Mai 13, 2015 Syria
al qaeda, Al-Nusra, Assad, Iran, Iraq, ISIS, nusra, rebels, Salafi, Shia, Sunni, Wahhabi
Most of the relevant fighting on the rebel side of the Syrian war has been done by the Nusra Front, and the similarly Al Qaeda minded Ahrar al Sham and Jaish al Islam, not to mention many other Al Qaeda or IS splinter groups including Chechen, North African or other Central Asian fighters.
The remnants of the so called “moderates” have almost never hesitated to work closely with Al Nusra or even IS when it deemed necessary. Therefore all the occasional “bond breakings” of the so called “Southern Front” with Al Nusra cannot be taken seriously. One day they announce to have broken all ties with Nusra and opposing them, but when the Syrian army captures two villages they call for Nusra to help.
Now, nobody but extremely naive people believes that the radical and mostly sectarian islamists who bore the brunt of the fighting will lay down their weapons and quit the political field once Assad is defeated and gone/killed. These people have never fought for anything remotely resembling a “western” civil state with democratic institutions and human rights implementation. Those who demonstrated against Assad will find out (just as Iranians post 1979 and Libyans after Ghaddafi) that what they have gotten is much worse than what they had.
And just like post-Soviet Afghanistan and post-Ghaddafi Libya the many militias will not let anyone disarm them.
The failure in Iraq was “explained” with the Shia-Sunni conflict, but where are the Shia in Egypt? How many Shias live in Libya? Are the Afghan Shia a relevant force to claim that Taliban enjoy support to “counter balance” them?
I know that Arab leaders and media are very creative in connecting Iran with any problem in their countries but is Iran “meddling” in Egypt or Libya? Is Boko Haram in Nigeria or al Shabab in Somalia a “reaction” to “Iranian expansionism”? Are takfiri groups in Kashmir or in Pakistan suffering from Iranian or “Shia oppression”?
Only complete idiots claim that with the departure of Assad and the victory of the “revolution” peace and prosperity will return and prevail. Just see how Afghanistan fares, 14 years after “liberation”, after the mission being “accomplished”. And just judge for yourself whether Al Qaeda has been weakened after 14 years of the (seemingly endless) “war on terror”, after killing Bin Laden and after drone assassinations of dozens of Al Qaeda “top commanders” in Africa, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Ukraine Crisis Report: Military Escalation in Donesk
By South Front, Global Research, May 16, 2015
Ukrainian troops have set up field depots holding up to 2,000 tons of munitions along the line of engagement with the DPR.
Moreover, DPR reconnaissance has reported movement of Uragan and Grad multiple rocket launch systems, infantry combat vehicles, self-propelled artillery units towards the engagement line, therefore Kiev’s side continues to scale up heavy weapons and munitions in the zone of conflict.
More provocations from Ukrainian troops are being reported around the Donetsk airport after Ukrainian Self-styled President Petro Poroshenko announced plans to seize the Donetsk airport, Eduard Basurin, a spokesman for the defense ministry of the DPR said on Thursday. “Following Poroshenko’s pronouncements, provocations have become more frequent, shelling of Gorlovka resumed after a lull since February. Poroshenko’s words are meant to continue escalation,” Basurin stated. On May 11, Kiev’s president Petro announced plans to take the Donetsk airport under Kiev’s control. The question arises: has he ever heard about Minsk agreements?
Western donors are in no hurry to help residents of Donetsk and Lugansk regions while their efforts in other areas are much more efficacious, Konstantin Dolgov, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for the supremacy of law and human rights said on Thursday at a session of a committee for public support to the population of southeastern Ukraine that was hosted by the Federation Council, the upper house of Russian parliament. “Frankly speaking, Western donors’ efforts are much more productive along other geographic azimuths,” he emphasized.

Kiev Heads Closer to Resuming Full-Scale War on Donbass

“We will fight to the last drop of blood,” he blustered.
Ukraine is a US-installed fascist police state. Fundamental democratic rights are prohibited – including a free and open media.
On Thursday, Ukrainian security forces shut down Odessa’s Timer independent online news service. Its editor-in-chief, Yuri Tkachov, three journalists and web site administrator were arrested.
They’ll likely be charged with “conspiracy to encroach on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability” for reporting hard truths Kiev wants suppressed.
Daily provocations against Donbass continue. Donetsk People’s Republic military spokesman Eduard Basurin said they’re more frequent than any time since Minsk II in February.
In the last 24 hours alone, Kiev forces committed 43 ceasefire violations, he said.
Tanks, artillery, mortars and other weapons targeted Donetsk airport, Volvo center, Oktyabrskaya mine, Oktyabrskiy settlement, Shirokino, Gorlovka, Spartak, Zhabichevo, Saichenko, Kalinovka, Krasnyi Oktyabr, Zheleznaya Balka, Novaya Maryevka and Grirorovka.
According to Basurin, “(t)he Ukrainian side continues to scale up heavy weapons and munitions in the zone of the so-called anti-terrorist operation (against Donbass democrats).”
“DPR reconnaissance has reported movement of Uragan and Grad multiple rocket launch systems, infantry combat vehicles, self-propelled artillery units towards the engagement line.”
“Also, we have information about Ukraine’s deployment of additional field depots, which, according to our estimates, are holding more than 2,000 tons of munitions.”
On Wednesday, State Department Jeff Rathke lied blaming freedom fighters for multiple daily Kiev Minsk violations, saying:
“(S)eparatists on a daily basis continue to breach the Minsk agreement through their attacks.”
Blaming victims is longstanding US policy. So is serial lying.
On May 15, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland arrived in Kiev – officially “to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues.”
In fact, to review plans for renewed aggression on Donbass. She was Obama’s point person in replacing Ukraine’s democratically elected government with overt Nazis assuming high regime positions.
A Final Comment
The 1985 song “We Are the World” was written, recorded and sung to raise funds for starving Africans.
On May 13, NATO foreign ministers disgracefully sang it at an Alliance meeting in Turkey – an alarming PR stunt, suggesting imperial aggression is morally right.

Senate Passes Obama’s TPP Fast-Track Trade Proposal
By Tyler Durden, Zero Hedge, Global Research, May 16, 2015
wo days ago there was some rejoicing and much surprise when the “Warren-faction” of Senate liberals turned against Obama, and failed to vote for a fast-track approval of the TPP. That surprise lasted for about 48 hours when moments ago, in a 65-33 vote, the Senate finally advanced a measure allowing Obama to expedite approval of trade agreements, a bill with bipartisan support in that chamber which however according to Bloomberg may run into strong opposition from House Democrats.
The vote followed separate votes sought by Democrats to pass proposals curbing currency manipulation and boosting imports from sub-Saharan Africa. The Senate plans to consider amendments to the fast-track trade proposal next week.
As previously reported, a rebellion Tuesday among Senate Democrats seeking the currency provision previews what may be fiercer battle ahead between Democrats and House Speaker John Boehner, an Ohio Republican.
“There’s a broad feeling we have to do something against China” on currency manipulation, New York Senator Charles Schumer, the chamber’s third-ranking Democrat, told reporters before the vote on advancing the trade bill. He called the currency measure “a shot across China’s bow that we’re not going to just sit there and do nothing.”
Bloomberg reports that the fast-track bill would allow Obama to submit trade agreements to Congress for an up-or-down vote without amendments. He hopes to complete a 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership and send it for fast-track approval.

Voting fraud? George Galloway launches legal battle over election defeat
May 11, 2015

Galloway claims the results were affected by “false statements” made by the Labour candidate during the election campaign.
He has accused Shah of lying about him on Urdu-language television and falsely claiming she was forced into marriage.
Shortly before polling day, Galloway filed a complaint to the director of public prosecutions about a nikah (an Islamic wedding certificate) Shah produced to prove she was forced to marry her cousin in Pakistan when she was 15.
In a piece widely shared on social media in March, Shah said she was forced into marriage “through emotional blackmail” when she was “just 15 years old while in Pakistan.”
Shah has announced plans to sue Galloway for bringing the circumstances of her marriage into question.
“Bitter” Galloway also claims to have uncovered “widespread malpractice” in postal voting, and urges for the result to be “set aside.”
He is currently “in the process of compiling the information” needed to form part of the petition to have the results rectified.
On Twitter, Galloway said: “We’ve begun legal proceedings, seeking to have the result of the Bradford West election set aside. I cannot therefore discuss my own election for now.”
In a further statement, he added: “It has come to my notice that there has been widespread malpractice in this election, particularly over postal voting.”

Cash for access, killer antibiotics & solving the housing crisis the Tory way (E207)
May 16, 2015 Vid
Former Labour adviser and brother of Jack Straw, Ed Straw, tells “Going Underground” host Afshin Rattansi about systemic government failures that allow politicians to accept cash for access and why Cameron’s lobbying register will not work. Plus, leading housing expert Danny Dorling explains how the Tories are going to solve the housing crisis - by leaving it up to the market. He tells us why Labour is the party of renters, and the Conservatives are the party of homeowners. And we investigate why the Cabinet Office is preparing plans to cope with hundreds of thousands of dead Britons because of the over-prescription of antibiotics.

The electoral kaleidoscope has been shaken and the pieces are in flux. But where will they land? After last week’s election it certainly appeared Britain had turned deep blue. But has it? Only 24 percent of the British people voted for David Cameron and yet he has untrammelled power for the next five, long years.
More cuts and austerity and undreamt off privatizations are on the horizon. For our first post-election show, we've assembled two of the most astute observers of the British political scene: Seumas Milne, the associate editor of the Guardian newspaper, and Neil Clark one of Britain's shrewdest political analysts. We ask what mandate David Cameron really has?
