The Ukraine (1) Minsk
'US & UK try to sabotage any Ukraine peace agreement'
RT Feb 6, 2015
Talks between Russia’s President Putin, France’s President Hollande, and German Chancellor Merkel have been constructive, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday. However, RT spoke with political analyst Dan Glazebrook, who thinks that while Germany seems enthusiastic about the peace talks, the other sides involved in the conflict – the US and UK – are creating obstacles which may stand in the way of the conflict’s resolution.

Putin Wins, Obama Loses, in Draft Plan for Ukraine

Eric Zuesse, 13 Feb. 2015
The only way that U.S. President Barack Obama can win in Ukraine now is by negotiating subsequent details to become deal-breakers to the February 12th draft agreement, such that for Russian President Vladimir Putin not to accept Obama’s proposed details would mean that no deal will be signed. This could happen, because the prestige of both leaders is on the line in this new draft deal on Ukraine.
The agreement is only basic principles, which can be found at
The announcement of the agreement opens as follows:
"Russian President Vladimir Putin; President of Ukraine, Peter Poroshenko; French President Francois Hollande; and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel, confirmed full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. They firmly believe in the inevitability of peaceful resolution.”
U.S. President Barack Obama is not mentioned there; but, for him to reject their deal, and to send lethal weapons to Ukraine now and so escalate the war and its massive bloodshed — which has already cost “up to 50,000” dead and millions of refugees — would be extremely embarrassing for the United States: no American “boots on the ground,” just tens of thousands of Ukrainian corpses under it, in a war that Obama himself had initiated (and even the founder of Stratfor, the “private CIA” firm, says that the February 2014 overthrow of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, which started the war, was “the most blatant coup in history,” which it certainly was, and is increasingly recognized as having been).
If, during coming days, Putin does nothing that causes Merkel or Hollande to say Putin is violating what had been understood between the negotiants, then Putin will be essentially in control on those crucial remaining details too, and the U.S. position (which favors more war) (and this is so not only from Obama but also from the Congress) will go down in flames. The next few days and weeks will thus be crucial, and Merkel and Hollande hold the top cards, because Obama needs to avoid an open break with them — something that would be an open break with the EU itself, which America’s aristocracy very much don’t want to happen (since America’s aristocracy would then lose their enormous influence over the EU).
The U.S. position has been for war against Russia from the start, which goes back at least to before 20 November 2013, when it was revealed in Ukraine’s parliament or “Rada” that the U.S. had already very skillfully set to spring a Euromaidan movement to bring down the Ukrainian Presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, which “Euromaidan” then started the very next day, when President Yanukovych announced that Ukraine had received a better economic offer from the Eurasian Economic Community than from the European Union, and that therefore it would be in the best interests of the Ukrainian people for Ukraine to join with the EEC (which the people in eastern Ukraine wanted), than with the EU (which the people in western Ukraine wanted) and that this joining of the EEC would now happen. The Euromaidan protest, which had been organized by America’s CIA, began on 21 November 2013. Its mass-members were regular western Ukrainians, but its leadership, the people who were armed, were Ukraine’s nazis, a special group of western Ukrainians, who viscerally hate ethnic Russians and actually want to exterminate them (thus making these people ideal for Obama’s purposes of crushing Russia).
Immediately after the coup when Yanukovych was overthrown, the EU sent an investigator, Urmas Paet, to find out whether the extremely violent overthrow of Yanukovych had been due to Yanukovych, or else to “someone from the new coalition [meaning the EU and U.S.],” and he reported, on 26 February 2014, to the EU’s foreign affairs chief, Catherine Ashton, that it was due to “someone from the new coalition [our side].” This information shocked her. (As Obama’s chief agent controlling the coup, Victoria Nuland, had said on 4 February 2014, preparing the coup, “F—k the EU!” In that same phone call, she also selected Arseniy Yatsenyuk as the person who would take over the Ukrainian Government after the coup, which he did, 22 days later. Anyone who denies that it was a coup is either ignorant or lying, because this is the first coup in history that was fully documented on live videos.) However, rejecting Ukraine as a new candidate for the EU didn’t fit Ashton’s job-description, and she could do nothing about the matter anyway; so, she accepted it, and tried to make it work, as peacefully as possible.
The EU’s reason for wanting Ukraine is chiefly economic, for its gas and agricultural resources. The chief reason that America’s aristocracy want Ukraine is as a launching-pad for NATO missiles against Moscow, because Russia is the world’s main military hold-out against control by the U.S. aristocracy, and America’s aristocracy are eager to use taxpayers’ money, which is to say the U.S. military, to bring Russia to heel and within their economic control — it’s then a freebie to them.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is primarily concerned to avoid Ukraine having a Government that wants U.S. strategic (i.e., aimed against Moscow) missiles; in other words: he wants to avoid Ukraine’s becoming a member of NATO — the anti-Russian military club of nations, which now surrounds Russia. The only way that he can achieve this crucial objective is for the far-eastern region of Ukraine, Donbass (the region shown in dark purple on this map), which had voted 90% for Yanukovych and 10% for America’s candidate (Yulia Tymoshenko) in the 2010 Presidential election (the last election in which all parts of Ukraine voted), to remain as being voters in Ukrainian national elections, so as to counterbalance the anti-Russian northeastern half of Ukraine and thus avoid any more nazis being elected to national power in Ukraine.
Donbass is the region where Obama’s Ukrainian Government is trying to exterminate the residents (whom they call ‘Terrorists’ and try to kill in their “Anti Terrorist Operation” there, fooling the western Ukrainian public that those are “Terrorists” instead of simply Donbass’s residents, the people who live there). If Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko, or whomever the U.S. supports, doesn’t succeed at exterminating or else driving out the residents in Donbass, then Ukraine’s Government will probably not be able to join NATO and bring in its strategic missiles aimed at Russia — which is what this is all about, from the standpoint of Barack Obama: it’s part of surrounding Russia with NATO missiles.
Looking at that draft agreement, it seems to meet Putin’s basic national-security needs for Russia. Doubass’s people would retain their right to vote for Ukraine’s President.
In order for him to do this, it is essential for the breakaway region to stay within Ukraine as regards the voters there participating in future elections for Ukraine’s President. As I headlined on 19 September 2014, “Russia’s Leader Putin Rejects Ukrainian Separatists’ Aim to Become Part of Russia.” The current draft agreement meets this Russian-national-security need. As I commented at that time: "Perhaps Putin’s declining to accept Ukrainian territory into Russia is part of an agreement between the two leaders in which Obama is, for his part, declining the urgings from congressional Republicans and conservative Democrats for the U.S. to provide weapons to the Ukrainian military to expedite their ethnic cleansing campaign.” However, if U.S. President Obama goes ahead with the Republicans’ position, of sending lethal weapons to Ukraine, then the United States will end up becoming internationally isolated, unless either Merkel, or Hollande, or both, declare that Putin is failing to comply with the new agreement, and rejoin with the United States in its ethnic-cleansing effort to eliminate the residents in the separatist region, “Donbass,” which includes the Donetsk and Luhansk republics.
[...] So, although Putin has won this opening round of obtaining a new peace agreement, Obama still yet can win in the later stages and increase the ethnic cleansing, if either Merkel or Hollande abandon Putin.
The draft agreement also includes other features that would be necessary for the economic reconstruction of the Donbass region, which the Ukrainian Government has been bombing in its ethnic cleansing campaign. For the first time (if the initial statements from the IMF become borne out in additional ‘loans’ actually taxpayer donations, to Ukraine), Western taxpayers will be contributing to that economic reconstruction, which will be vast, especially considering that around 50,000 civilians and soldiers have probably thus far been slaughtered in Obama’s ethnic-cleansing campaign there, and more than a million residents have fled and become refugees (mainly in Russia), and the cities and villages have been bombed and even firebombed. So, while some aristocrats may have gained from Obama’s coup, taxpayers in the West will now be paying tens of billions to undo some of the economic damage that Obama and the U.S. Congress (especially Republicans there) have caused in Ukraine by means of the coup and of its essential ethnic-cleansing aftermath. Since ‘we’ taxpayers (the public) caused the war (from which only some international aristocrats might benefit — and those were the people behind it), we (and not those aristocrats) shall be cleaning up from it — if the current deal doesn’t fall apart and the damages from the war thus soar even further.
But, at least in the first draft of this agreement, Putin has won, and Obama has lost.

"All is lost"--Poroshenko after Minsk-2
On the Outcome of the Minsk Negotiations: Kiev was given the opportunity to save face before dying.
Feb 12 By Ivan Lizan, Translated from Russian by J.Hawk
Imagine yourself as Petro Poroshenko for a minute: you fly in for a meeting, and you discover everyone is against you, the Europeans, the Russians, even the clever Belorussian with his little smile. The ally and patron is somewhere far away, behind an ocean. You have to run to make a phone call and get instructions. People are openly chuckling when you tell them there is no encirclement at Debaltsevo. They even ask you to leave the room so that Putin, Merkel, and Hollande can speak. You can’t believe in the outcome of the negotiations, and even tell the media that “all is lost.” A disaster.
But you still remember that your victory can easily be transformed into treachery, and you yourself can be deprived of power and even life. You have to save face, since you are not independent and don’t have any genuine power. Your competitor in Dnepropetrovsk already opened a parallel General Staff, and the efforts to disperse the Aidar failed completely. You even destroyed the coalition when you tried to make your friend/godfather the Prosecutor General.
So it’s better not to return at all without an agreement. It’s even more important not to return without an advantageous agreement. But there isn’t one. Because they put in front of you a compromise, and you had to sign on.
Holland and Merkel are beaming, because the plan worked and they believe in its implementation.
But only Lukashenko and Putin, and the DPR/LPR representatives understand what’s really going on.

Soros' plot
Soros' plot (within the global hegemony plot) to rape the UKR and install NATO, against its agreement with Putin not to, appears to be going belly up and a division appears to be developing between the UK-US zionists and neocons and FR-DE (Pilgrims?/) Bilderbergers.
Deep joy. Perhaps that will accelerate the UK's departure from the corrupt political side of the union, the E. Commission run by the aptly named Bilderberger Junker and Soros' NGO E. Council run by Bilderberger Rompuy.

Bilderberg was created for the Pilgrims by Rockefeller. The CFR and ECFR are lobbyist NGOs for Bilderberg that virtually dictate foreign policy. Chatham Hse is the UK equivalent although it also advises Bilderberg in common with various think tanks such as PNAC that gave us Bay of Pigs and 9-11.
Lots of info coming out that shows how deceptive the US and UK have been in the whole manufactured coup that was envisioned by Soros before he was developing the "colour revolutions" with his witches Clinton, Power and Rice. It appears Nuland is another of his witches.

Remember' Bilderberg passes out agreed objectives of the Pilgrims and has little regard how they are accomplished as demonstrated in Libya and Syria

Poroshenko throws 800 people and 3 battalion groups into battle
to deblock the Debaltsevo cauldron & save himself
[...] Simultaneously with information about deblocking advance near Debaltsevo information appeared on a number of Ukrainian forums, and was removed by administrators, about a "black night", which the Ukrainian command wants to throw as a final good bye for the rebellious population of Donbass.
According to this information, in the last hours of the war the Ukrainian artillery should cause the most massive for this entire campaign strike on cities and towns of Donetsk and Lugansk Republics. As mentioned on one of the forums: "Leaving, loudly slamming the door, so that this bang will be remembered in each separatist family, in each of their homes!"
This cynical campaign of the Ukrainian Nazis could claim hundreds of lives.
Kristina Rus: Meanwhile all those deaths were not necessary, because the offer for safe passage through green corridors has already been on the table, and was again reiterated at Minsk, but saving the lives of Ukrainian soldiers is not "victory" for Poroshenko

Minsk-2 is over before it began: 17 volunteer battalions refuse to obey Kiev
February 12 Translated by Kristina Rus. RIGA, RIA Novosti.
Defense Minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic Vladimir Kononov said that 17 territorial battalions involved in the fighting in the South-East of Ukraine pulled out of control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and went under the control of the Right Sector.
"I have data that 17 territorial battalions withdrew from subordination to UAF and came under the jurisdiction of Yarosh. This is the "Right Sector". "Right Sector" never fulfilled any agreements and in fact they constantly provoked further clashes," - said Kononov on Thursday on Latvian TV show "Tonight" on channel LTV7.
"Right Sector" - is a Ukrainian union of radical nationalist organizations. In January and February 2014 the militants of the movement were engaged in clashes with the police and the seizure of administrative buildings, and since April - in the suppression of protests in the East of Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly called on Kiev to disarm illegal armed groups, including the militants of the "Right Sector".

NATO members start supplying weapons to Kiev – Ukrainian Defense Minister
RT September 14
NATO member states have started supplying weapons to Ukraine, the country’s Defense Minister said on TV. His comments came a few days after a similar statement by a Ukrainian presidential aide sparked a diplomatic scandal and a rash of denials.
In an interview with Channel 5, Ukrainian Defense Minister Valery Geletey said that he had held verbal consultations with the defense ministers of the “leading countries of the world, those that can help us, and they heard us. We have the supply of arms under way.”
“This process has begun, and I feel that this is exactly the way we need to go,” the minister said.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who attended the Sept. 4-5 NATO summit in Wales, announced that he had negotiated direct modern weapons supplies with a number of NATO member states.
NATO to give Ukraine 15mn euros, lethal and non-lethal military supplies from members
Poroshenko claimed that some of the NATO member states said during bilateral consultations they are ready to supply Ukraine with lethal and non-lethal arms, including “high precision weapons,” as well as with medical equipment.
NATO has had repeatedly said that the alliance is not going to supply any weapons or military equipment to Ukraine. At the same time, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the alliance would not interfere if member states made decisions of their own regarding arms supply to Ukraine.

“The weapons were not just found but demonstrated at a meeting of the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) and representatives of the OSCE and Ukraine,” he told the Russian television Channel One. “They offered no reactions, the only thing they said was ‘we will write it down in the protocol’ and nothing followed.”
In his words, the Ukrainian army has used mercenaries from the very beginning of the force operation in eastern Ukraine. “There is little doubt they are there now,” he said.

Dead bodies in NATO uniforms, US weapons recovered from under debris of Donetsk airport
January 22
Last week, Eduard Basurin, a spokesman for the DPR defense ministry, said that dead bodies in NATO uniforms and a great number of US-made weapons had been recovered from under the debris of the Donetsk airport. “While examining the building of the Donetsk airport, we found a great number of American firearms, assault rifles and hand mortars, equipment and communications devices,” he said. “We also found publications in European languages, including on religious matters.”
Apart from that, “we found dead bodies in NATO uniforms under the debris in the new terminal. Personal belongings indicated that these people were foreign citizens contracted by private military companies who operated under the disguise of Ukrainian subversive groups,” he said.

GOP senator and conservative website mocked over ‘exclusive’ 6-year-old photos of Russian tanks
13 Feb Tom Boggioni
Speaking before the Senate Armed Services Committee in support of a bill that would authorize President Obama to arm Ukraine with lethal military aid, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) used 6-year-old photos of invading Russian tanks, claiming they were taken recently, according to Gawker.
In prepared remarks to the committee, the conservative Oklahoma senator introduced the photos, saying, “These photographs were given to me by Lt Col Semen Semenchenko, the commander of Donbas Volunteer Assault Battalion and newly elected member of the parliament of Ukraine, during our meeting on 13 Nov last year.”
Inhofe added, “The first set of pictures show Russian troops in T-72 tanks, BTR armored personnel carriers, and BMP infantry fighting vehicles entering eastern Ukraine, waiving Russian flags. This is not simply supporting separatists – it is an invasion of the Ukraine by Russia. The second set of picture were taken by Ukrainian soldiers on the front line in eastern Ukraine.
However, after Inhofe’s office released the photos to The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website that promoted them as an “exclusive,” they were quickly debunked online as being file photos of Russian tanks and soldiers dating back as far as 2008.
Commenters on Twitter mocked the Free Beacon over their “exclusive,” with one writing, “What a f’ing joke. WFB runs photos from Inhofe as proof Russia arming Ukraine. At least 1 from Russo-Georgian War.”

BBC airs Maidan fighter admitting he fired on police before Kiev massacre
RT February 12
Nearly a year after the massacre on Kiev's Maidan left over 50 dead, the BBC has aired footage of an opposition fighter who says he fired at police in the early morning that day, bringing into question the popular narrative that riot police fired first.
"I was shooting downward at their feet," says a man the broadcaster decided to identify as Sergei.
"Of course, I could have hit them in the arm or anywhere. But I didn't shoot to kill."
According to Sergei, he took up a position in the Kiev Conservatory, a music academy located on the southwest corner of Kiev’s Independence Square, on February 20.
One day prior, he had met up with a man who offered him two guns. The first was a 12-gauge shotgun, while the other was a hunting rifle – a Saiga that fired high-velocity rounds.
He chose the Saiga and hid it at a post office that, along with the conservatory, was under the protesters’ control. Sergei told the BBC he was later escorted to the Conservatory, where, with a second gunman, he spent 20 minutes before 7:00 am firing on police.
Other witness testimony has corroborated his account.
Andriy Shevchenko, who was an opposition MP at the time and also part of the Maidan movement, said he had received a phone call from the head of the riot police on Maidan Square claiming his officers had come under fire.
"He calls me and says, 'Andriy, somebody is shooting at my guys.' And he said that the shooting was from the Conservatory," Shevchenko said.
Shevchenko, in turn, says he contacted Andriy Parubiy, who headed up security for the protesters and was known as the Commandant of Maidan.
It’s at this point where the details of what followed become murky.
Parubiy says he sent a group of “his best men” to scour the Conservatory and determine if anyone was firing from it. Parubiy, who now serves as deputy speaker in the current Ukrainian parliament, claims his men found no gunmen in the building.
A photographer who had gained access to the Conservatory later in the morning just after 8:00 am, however, took pictures of men with guns in the building, though he never saw them discharge their weapons.
All the while, Shevchenko claims he was getting increasingly panicked calls from the head of the riot police, who said that five officers had been wounded and another killed before he decided to pull out.
Sergei's account appears to contradict Parubiy’s.
"I was just reloading," Sergei told the BBC. "They ran up to me and one put his foot on top of me, and said, 'They want a word with you, everything is OK, but stop doing what you're doing.'"
Sergei says he was convinced the men who dragged him away were from Parubiy’s security unit, though he admits he did not recognize their faces. After being taken out of the building, he was dropped off outside of Kiev by car, though it appears no further harm came to him.
By this point, the BBC notes that three policemen had been wounded fatally and the mass killings began that ultimately left more than 50 protesters dead.
[...] Witnesses at the time said they saw snipers shooting at both protesters and security forces.
A leaked recording of a conversation between European Union foreign policy Baroness Catherine Ashton and Estonia’s foreign minister, Urmas Paet, also appeared to confirm the possibly that it had been members of the opposition, and not Yanukovich’s security forces, who fired the first shots.
“There is a stronger and stronger understanding that behind the snipers – it was not Yanukovich, it was somebody from the new [ruling] coalition,” Paet told Ashton, citing claims that “there were the same snipers killing people from both sides.”

Ancient Roots of Bilderberg Reveal Prusso-Teutonic Agenda for World Domination
[Relevant to the ongoing hegemony plot]
Jurriaan Maessen Infowars.com May 29, 2012
As one of the instruments in their well-planned push for world domination, the German aristocratic elite (Winkler calls them ‘Junkers’ throughout the book) created the biggest bully of them all, Adolf Hitler, to antagonize the world- and consequently clear the brushes for a two-man race between the East and the West in the decades thereafter. As far as the Junkers were concerned, Hitler was a dream come true as he was reaping havoc around the globe, thereby forcing his enemies to commence with a world government rising from the ruins of the War that ensued. Empires come and go, Winkler argues, tyrants rise and fall- but an unholy alliance holds firm throughout history, guiding the course of events as the world turns. The real controllers seldom appear out from the shadows. They rather stay out of sight: promoting, funding and supervising certain individuals who will do their bidding in the full light of day. As the muffled sound of planes was heard snoring overhead, Winkler set out to identify what he calls “the forces behind the forces”: an alignment of two powers that have dominated Germany from the 13th century onward.
Rise of the Hanseatic League
Around the year 1175, somewhere in the vast forests of Northern Germany, several Germanic merchants and noblemen were gathered in secret to discuss an idea that was already brewing for some time past. Although initially the plan was probably still as shapeless as the forest deities they praised, it slowly grew into more than just a plan that would eventually have great implications for Northern Europe in the centuries to come. Ancient trading guilds from all over Germany, Hansas as they were called, set out to build a great unified trade organization. This new organization was out to gather as many European towns under its wing as possible, offering all kinds of trading privileges along the Baltic and North Sea and in return demanding free access through all ports along the great inland rivers. Good news, it seemed, for the impoverished forts of the Low Countries in the west, for now they were able to trade more goods over longer distances. But the local riverside lords had unknowingly entered into an agreement with a cunning serpent. Over the next three centuries the League would dictate economic policy in Western Europe and therefore exert influence on the everyday politics of those days. Playing cities and counties off against each other, the organization held medieval North-West Europe in a tight economic stranglehold that would last for the better part of the Middle Ages. In the course of this time the number of towns that swore (or were forced to swear) allegiance to the League rose to a staggering 200. A bewildering number when we take into account we are still in the dirty depths of the Dark Ages. The League realized however that controlling and expanding her monopoly would require more than just relying on the weapon of economic boycott. The new trade organization would enforce its rule with the help of an industrious military arm, clearing the way for hanseatic settlements in the remotest of areas.
The Teutonic Order
Founded in 1189 on the shores of the Holy Land, the Order of the Teutonic Knights of St. Mary’s hospital in Jerusalem was forced into being under the sails of the seafaring tradesmen. In order to legitimize this new military arm it was cleverly streamlined with the lucrative crusades in the Holy Land that were already in full swing around the time of its founding. To have taken part in the Holy War meant an enormous boost in prestige back home in Europe; and besides, conducting operations under the papal seal enabled the Teutonic swordsmen to go ahead with their real business of interest: setting up a military system not in pagan-infested Outremer, but in North-West Europe along the trading routes of their sister organization, the Hanseatic League.

NATO trying to break the Minsk agreement with the breakaway terrorist Yarosh's 17 battalions
‘Long way from peace’: Over 10 civilians killed in E. Ukraine shelling after Minsk agreement
RT February 13
Published time: February 13
At least 10 civilians, including three children, have been killed in the eastern regions of Ukraine in the 24 hours since a peace deal was signed in Minsk that envisages a ceasefire on Sunday. The OSCE reported the use of cluster munitions.
Kiev will call for an emergency European Council meeting if the ceasefire is not implemented Sunday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Friday. He announced this at talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban.
The Minsk peace deal “offers a way forward to comprehensive, sustainable and peaceful" resolution of Ukraine crisis, G7 leaders said in a statement, issued by the French presidency on Friday. It added that the group is ready to adopt "appropriate measures" against those who violate the peace accord.
Three children and one adult have been killed during the shelling of the Donbass town of Gorlovka, three civilians have died in Donetsk, and at least 15 people have been wounded in the daytime after the new agreement was reached in Minsk, a Donetsk militia representative told reporters. “Yesterday during the shelling in a private house in Gorlovka three children died – a one-year-old boy and girls aged six and 12,” Eduard Basurin said Friday.
According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, during the same period three civilians were killed and 11 were wounded in shelling by Donetsk self-defense forces, RIA Novosti reported.
Loud artillery volleys and explosions were heard in northern Donetsk on Friday morning. A shell hit the territory of a local kindergarten and a woman was wounded, but no children were inside the building.
In the neighboring Lugansk region, two men and a woman were killed and four people were wounded Friday night, RIA Novosti reported. Another four people died and five people were wounded in the shelling in the town of Schastye blamed on the self-defense forces by the Kiev-appointed authorities, according to Interfax. The local Emergencies Ministry called for people not to leave shelters and homes, especially in the nighttime, due to the increasing rate of the shellfire.
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)’s report Friday said that cluster munitions were used in Thursday’s shelling of the city of Lugansk.

The Islamic State carried out a coordinated suicide bomber attack against the air base in western Iraq housing 320 US Marines. The Pentagon confirmed the extremist group has taken control of al-Baghdadi, which is just eight kilometers away from the base.
The Friday attack was conducted by approximately 25 Islamic State fighters, the Pentagon told Reuters, and several suicide bombers were involved. Some of them were reportedly able to detonate their vests, though the exact number is unclear. Some of the militants were able to sneak into the base wearing Iraqi uniforms, and they were killed by Iraqi troops when fighting broke out.
There are approximately 320 Marines at the base training Iraqi security forces, though the Pentagon said Marines were not involved in the fighting. No US or Iraqi casualties have been reported.

OT. US invasion of Iraq helped create ISIS - former UN chief
RT February 08
Kofi Annan, the former UN secretary general, said the US-led invasion of Iraq was a mistake and helped to create the Islamist State militant group. He also blamed regional powers for making the conflict worse.
“I was against this invasion and my fears have been founded. The break-up of the Iraqi forces poured hundreds if not thousands of disgruntled soldiers and police officers onto the streets,” Kofi Annan told the Munich Security Conference on Sunday. He added that some of these former security force members went on to join the Islamic State.
“The aim of creating democracy without the existing institutions ushered in corrupt sectarian governments,” Annan said. He added that the country has been unstable ever since and this has proved the perfect breeding ground for Sunni radical Muslims, who have become affiliated with the Islamic State.
